You're clearly asking for different timings, and why? No employee irrespective of their religion should be given any special treatment.

I don't know what the Indian workplace laws say....if they have laws that protect the rights of staff to carry out religious obligations within reason, I see no reason to cater to muslims specifically.

My personal anecdote was to highlight how these things are always handled best at the individual level.

Not to mention, decisions like the above can sometimes have a negative outcome...if private enterprise in that state feels pressured to do the same - I imagine some employers might hesitate to hire muslims in the 1st place.

Kind of like how some companies won't hire women in certain positions because they worry about maternity leave and the extended leave (of course they'll never admit it in public).

Ummmm, I dont want to sound like Arundhati Roy but I didnt want him to be hanged, specially after he confessed helping terrorists. It was the biggest mistake. We should have kept him alive for a littttttle longer till he revealed the names of some big fishes involved.

There is nothing obvious about it -

In an RTI reply in 2010, the Department of Personnel and Training told the petitioner that Muslim employees of the central government are allowed to take a break of one-hour during lunch time for Friday prayers. This practice has been continuing for the Central government's Muslim employees since British time. The RTI documents show that in 1963, the Ministry of Defence was directed to allow a similar break for employees in the military establishment.

According to a 1980-circular of Andhra Pradesh government, the Muslim employees are allowed to take a 90-minute break between 12.30 pm to 2 pm on Fridays. Similarly in Bihar, the government, in 2012, fixed the time for Friday prayer break of two hours between 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm including the lunch recess.

A DIFFERENT CASE IN ASSAM

Last month, the Assam government withdrew the permission to state-run madrassas to close the educational institution on Fridays and during the month of Ramzan. Till then, it was practice for long. However, in the modification order, the BJP government allowed a one-hour break for Jumma Namaz (Friday prayers).

There are no clear unified laws, yet Govt ministries including the Ministry of Defence have been given instructions relating to Jummah Prayers dating back 50+ years...individual States have also done the same thing - including BJP govt in Assam very recently.

A Good decisions for the Muslims employees.

I am also a staunch follower of my religion which direct me to worship my lord everyday with unique way of praying. N believe me no break is allowed even on Sunday... So this is just to appease them for vote banks politics & same will be struck down if court of law scrutinize the decision.....
Soon they will retract from what they have decided.... Rawat & khoongress to regret upon it sooner or later.....

Technically every state is still free to make laws to ban cow slaughter.
