What has LCA Tejas given to India?

.
Not particularly. A lot of people think that a seaworthy amphib can be simply derived from a carrier, its not that simple. There are challenges involved. Trying to pack an appreciable number of men and stores on a ship with a well-deck and hangar/garage facilities will require major internal re-design of a carrier. Can we design an amphib? Yes, but it will take quite a bit of time, specially since the NDB has its hands full.

Didnt we should allow Private shipyard and PSU for there independent design. NDB monopoly on design even causing the delays and cost overruns.

@kaku1

Please don't go off topic in this thread and keep it on the LCA projects and the achievements, @acetophenol put some effort in sharing the infos and we should respect that.

.
Some intangible points:
Over the last couple of decades, every IIT has got amazing CFD facilities, including HPC clusters. This is due to project funding via NAL, mainly due to the LCA program. My college (IIT Roorkee) got a wind tunnel as well. This equipment will be useful for quite some time to come. Furthermore, due to the projects conducted at these facilities, both by IITians and summer research interns, the LCA program has, albeit slowly, given us a fairly strong human resource potential for future aeronautical endeavours. These gains are not immediately visible, but in the long scheme of things, we shall reap dividends.

According to is spec ,

empty weight = 6560 kg

internal fuel = 2458 kg

So clean take-off weight = 6560 + 2458 = 9018 kg

But operational Take-off clean weight is shown as 9800 kg .

So where is the rest 782 kg ??

Even if we take the pilots weight , it does not add up .

kurup there's some error in the pic you've posted. The clean take off weight of LCA tejas is 9500Kg.
LCA Tejas - Specifications: Leading Particulars and Performance

Take off weight= OEW (op. empty weight) + cargo payload+ pilot's weight +Fuel
9500=6560+2458+ X
The X here is about 482kg.
I'm assuming the missing 482 kg could be for hydraulic fluids and ammo along with two short range air to air missiles as it is the norm to to include them in clean Take off weight

For more info read this..
In fact, if you look up the “Clean Take Off Weight” figures published for the LCA (all fluids, full internal fuel, gun ammo loaded and 2 close combat missiles..sort of like just strap in pilot and fly off), it is a very impressive 9.5tons

Guys, please keep this thread out of general discussions about LCA (we have a sticky thread for that) and follow the topic of achievements of the LCA project.

OK , then please answer it in the LCA thread .

. . .
on a lighter note, we should ask question "what have we given to LCA?" "when would we make LCA completely ready" .

We have given all badnami to LCA. IAF should name it different when they induct. Like Top Gun or something :)

"RTRS Penta Rail Supersonic Track"

9vh11j.jpg

Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) Penta Rail Supersonic Track a national test
facility was today inaugurated by Shri Avinash Chander, SA to RM,
Secretary Department of Defence R&D and DG DRDO. “India is among a
handful of countries in the world now possessing this unique test facility.
This four kilometer long RTRS Penta track will be extremely useful for the
testing of wide range of critical systems such as payload for manned
missions of ISRO, the navigation system for missiles and aircrafts,
proximity fuses for advanced warheads, fuses for armament systems
parachutes for payload delivery, arrester systems for aircraft such as LCA”,
stated Sh Avinash chander while inaugurated this National Test Facility, in
presence of Dr SS Sundaram, DG(ECS), Dr Satish Kumar, Chief Controller
(TM), Shri Ajay Singh, Chief Executive (CW&E), Sh M Balakrishnan and Sh
V S Sethi , both former directors of TBRL and officers & staff of TBRL.
Later, in his national technology Day address, he stated “I am glad that
today we have added another key facility in TBRL. He also witnessed the
demonstration of several newer advanced warheads”. Lauding the efforts
of TBRL scientists in developing key technologies that are strategically
important for the security of the nation, he said, that the observance of
National Technology Day began with the technologies in which TBRL has
played a key role. He also inaugurated the new building of Ballistics
Vidyalaya, Ramgargh, a school run by DRDO Educational Society and the
“Sampooran Singh Officers Transit Facility", within the premises of TBRL
residential area at Ramgarh.
Describing the RTRS facility, Dr Manjit Singh Outstanding Scientist &
Director TBRL said, “the facility consists of five rails, each having a length
of 4 km, on which a test article can be propelled at supersonic speed with
the help of specially designed rockets. The track built for this purpose is
precision aligned and capable of withstanding high level of loads. The
capability so acquired will accelerate the pace of development of defence
and aerospace technologies and products”.
