What do you think Russian response will be after the downing of its jet over Syria?

Will this lead to WW 3?

Personally I don't think it will result in a WW III as all sides have too much to lose and very little to gain. At best I believe Russia will introduce more advanced fighters (Su-27 and probably Su-35) and the S-400 system. They will probably also increase their daily air strikes against ISIS and other rebels.

Man I don't think this is the right section to post this thread.

Ontopic: Russian response will be limited to expressing diplomatic outrage, Turkey is no Georgia or Chechnia, Putin is too smart to engage Turkey militarily so no chances of WWIII .

However I still believe Turkey should have escorted them out with a warning instead of shooting down the plane

Since it's an opinion thread, I thought that this would be the best section.

Russian will wipe out the Turkmen or whoever they are.

I voted for 'No' in the poll because i know no western country will want to fight for Turkey against Bear.

I also think that, any direct military action will prompt Russians to put more money in the weapon developement and we may see PAKFA flying in RusAF colors way earlier than expected.

Another prospect I believe will be done is Russia using its S-400 and newer fighter jets to issue a no-fly zone over Syria and stop any Western attempt to bomb "ISIS targets" at Syria.

@SiCiSi What do you think of Russian response to this?

actually it is the very area through which turkey and other western countries make possible their military aid and equpment suplply to syrian rebels to destablize the same, so it is very critical to the both hostile camps and each group shall try its best bring this area under its influence

Not a lot ..... Russia is bankrupt and nato has no appetite to fight ...... More innocents will continue to die in Syria and Assad will remain where he is

Russia will respond and Turkey will be in no doubt who is the boss of the region.

Expect S-400s making the whole of Syria(and surrounding areas) a no-fly zone for any aircraft bar Syrian, Russian and maybe approved strike missions from countries like France. Also 2-3 dozen SU-30/35 aircraft will also be based in Syria just in case anyone, including Jews, dare think they can enter Syrian airspace without Russian permission.

Turks will be brought to heel by the Russians before the end of the year is out.

Russia is not USSR. It is completely bankrupt. The only reason it intervened is to try to raise the price of oil and to sure up support for Putin.

Russia is in no position to sustain such a position. It is one thing flying missions in the periphery of NATO it is quite another imposing a no fly zone . Fighting ISIS from air is easy if you have the means, it is quite another to take on the largest military machine is Europe even without the backing of NATO in their backyard.

Russia has all legal authority to impose a no-fly zone over Syria.

It also has the means - S-400 SAMs and Su-30/35 fighters. It would cost Russia very little money in setting up this deterrent as Syria is not a very large country to cover by SAMs and fighters.

Tell me - who would risk nuclear annihilation to take on Russia in Syria when Russia is legally in the right here?

Mate the rubel is in free fall ..... Russia is under sanctions .... It's shops are empty and oil price is at rock bottom.

It is not always about military capability. If your economy is faring this badly last thing you want to do is start a Cold War .

Unilateral Russian action will be responded with tougher sanctions. Saudis will pump more oil and bring the price even lower. Russia has some excellent military hardware but no economic muscle to fight an speculative overseas war.

Why would NATO and Turks within it fear Russian nukes .... They have nukes too...... MAD scenario nullifies nuke advantage. You are left with who can survive a standoff and that certainly not Russia.

If Russia puts anti aircraft missiles in Syria that can only be used against NATO allies you bet your bottom dollar NATO missiles will be placed in Ukraine right in the Russian underbelly .

It's a global game and Russia is just one country facing off NATO and I guess the Sunni alliance. It will lose pretty badly, quite simply the other side holds most of the pieces in the game.

Russian overseas adventure has been on its near abroad, Syria is too far and I think Putin has miscalculated. I would expect Russia to seek to calm things down. Escalation is in no ones interest.

Just some tough words, a lot of chest thumping from Putin is to be expected in the past coming days. I know ISIS scum bags would be celebrating though. Instead of world working together to get rid of this death cult, we are fighting amongst ourselves.
