What do people of Pakistan think about Gandhi

Had no idea, thanks for this titbit.

Btw NS Bose's contribution or lack there of is highly subjective and a purely internal matter, We should avoid discussing it here in this forum. History is a strange beast we never know when it would turn on us.

So quit while we are ahead :)

This thread is not meant for India-Pak bashing. @DESERT FIGHTER has refrained from it and I would humbly advised you to do the same. There are plenty of other threads available to do so.

Thanks
Okok..sorry

He put a corner stone called ahimsa for advancing human civilization ..Importance of this development is huge ..Though buddha already lived by it but modern world needed some support to consider it to be practical and ghandhiji gave that important substance ..Human being may have thousand drawbacks due to his true nature but he should be judged with his best works and ghandhiji best work is best among the rest and can be a guiding force for centuries to come

I agree but during later part of his stay in S. Africa he began to change his view. On the whole you are quite correct that his efforts were primarily directed towards Indians. The tools he used though inspired many native Africans and John L. Dube the first president of SANC was a friend of Gandhi and had on record stated that he Gandhi's struggle against discrimination of Indians had a major effect on Black Population

True the movement lead by him did impact the africans.. but the SAIC and SANC didnt cooperate till the 40s .. back than SAIC was lead by the likes of Dr Daddo,Naicker,Ismail Meer etc...

However one thing we had common in b/w us was our glorious struggle for Independence
India had an independence movement. Pakistan had a cessation movement. Bhagat Singh, Ghaffar Khan and Subhas Bose fought against the British Imperialists. Those who fought for Pakistan Movement (all due respect) fought against their Hindu neighbors, the same people. There is a huge difference between the two.

Just like Jinnah's Pakistan died with him, Gandhi's India died with him too.
Not really. It lives. All that is weak, senile, and utopian in India - they still look up to him (Him) as the ultimate Hero, over and above The Nehru. In fact this is the first time that a non Nehruvian Prime Minister has taken office.

To read the thread better ask " what Indians think about Ghandi " as we Pakistanis have to think a lot more than him.

Debatable after all India and Pakistan were one and same before 1947 hence credit goes to them also. I have never heard of anyone from Pakistan saying No, we don't want independence from British. The point about cessation or partition is independent of the fact that all Indians and hence future Pakistanis fought against British as they were one and the same.

Let's not play on semantics Sir.

Interestingly BJP seems to have made Gandhi their patron saint after all these years.

If you want to believe in this, please do go ahead. :)
But it is a fact that Pakistan Movement was aimed at freeing Muslims from 'Hindu rule'.

I agree, but my thread does not address the Pakistan movement but the freedom struggle. I think we can separate the two

Those who fought for freedom of India fought for the freedom of India. Those who fought for the creation of Pakistan were different from the former group. They were for the most part mutually exclusive.

In this respect I am curious about how Gandhi and Bhagat Singh are perceived in Pakistan and I would be welcome views from fellow Indians on Jinnah.
Its quite strange that you did put Bhagat singh along with Gandhi when Gandhi opposed bhagat singh and they advocated two opposite ways of gaining independence :)

Yes, Both used different tools but their end-goal was the same that is complete independence from Britishers. Hence both deserve respect.

Did Gandi tried to save Baghat singh from prosecution? He supported or opposed his prosecution? :)
