What's new

What did you think of the CWG opening ceremony?

For once, I don't have any criticism at all!

What I liked is that one could tell that the performers and the athletes (who had a ringside view of everything) were enjoying themselves.

The Indian girls who held the placards with country names were looking beautiful in their Saree's.

Well done, India.

I LOLed at the snake charmers part.

That Aerostat balloon looks like some Alien space vessel.

from sky news

The audience stood to sing India's national anthem and traditional drummers beat out the countdown to the opening as the stadium lights were dimmed.
A pyrochtechnical display of fireworks heralded the lift-off a massive helium balloon, reportedly costing $9m (£5.7m), which rose 80ft above the ground.
After a performance by singers, dancers and school children, 6,700 athletes from the 71 countries taking part made their entry into the stadium.

it works out abt 40 crores...not sure how reliable it is though!

It was beautiful to see so many young Indians still in touch with our rich culture. Its success also should be very inspiring to the younger generations. I would have liked Shera to have had more participation and also a few laborers who toiled very hard to build Delhi for CWG to have had some kind of representation. Otherwise, I swelled up with joy and pride!

Congratulations to India for hosting Commonwealth games!

After India, Pak team gets loudest applause at spectacular show Loud cheers for Pakistan

October 06, 2010

The loudest applause, predictably, was reserved for the Indian contingent. But what surprised many, perhaps even the participating athletes, was that the 60,000-plus crowd chose Pakistan for the second-loudest cheer.

If sheer crowd applause was any measure of the popularity of the participating countries, the 54-member Pakistani delegation, distinct in their green coats, was by far the most loved after India. Of course, the Indian delegation, led by flag-bearer Abhinav Bindra, was received with a standing ovation across the stadium, with even President Pratibha Patil and Prince Charles standing up to welcome the participants. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was the last to sit down after the resounding applause that lasted several minutes.
