Wonder you have noticed it now. didnt you noticed it when you got the first passport?

They don't have to be so direct, they SHOULD use more generic terms.

Why at all?

Are Pakistani authorities and clergymen so insecure about the people's commitment to Islam? That you need to give them a signed document declaring yourself as a Muslim and a rejecter of the Ahmadiya dogma? Or are these documents used to institutionalize discrimination against the specific minority?

Actually village Pakistanis are very uninformed. Go to any Pakistani village and many don't even know the basics of Islam. In Pakistan you can convert illetrate villagers for a few thousand rupees, so both Christian, Ahmedi, Taliban missionaries are taking advantage of this. Thus these steps are required by the Govt.

I've seen many time that ahmadiya are being now forced on us by many ......yes to call one self a Muslim it is necessary to accept basic principle of islaam. Ahmadiya or qadiyani are different religion. Yes they accept Muhammad as messenger but contradict that he is the last messenger. Why do Christians around the world call us Muslim. Why don't they just call us Christian. We accept Jesus as gods messenger but we don't agree with other faiths of them as Jesus is son of God etc that's why..., its not discrimination its protecting our identity ...

What's wrong with it. Mjnaushad explained it pretty well

This is not discrimination. Ahmedis want to be identified as muslims. But they are not muslims.

To be a muslim you have to believe in one God and Mohammed being his final messenger. Ahmedis dont accept Mohammed PBUH as the final messenger. Since they dont accept the very, very basic principle of Islam, they cant be considered muslims. Although to non-muslims or even muslims, they will look like followers of islam.

This is part of Pakistan constitution. Ahmedis were declared a minority in 1973 constitution after lengthy debate spanning several days in the national assembly. The debate was not just by the elected members but also by learned muslim scholars. So it was not a dictator's whim or an act to appease someone. Rather, it was deliberate attempt to clear the confusion about a very prudent and very important issue which could literally tear apart the islamic identity if left unresolved.

We do see many columns, showing ahmedis as the victims especially in Express Tribune, a newspaper which picks and report issues to project Pakistan for maximum negative exposure. It is extremely abhorrent to desecrate their cemeteries or their place of worship but if these incidents are portrayed as a national psyche or collective hate directed towards them, its nothing but manipulation of perception and thought of the audience.

Ahmedis are non-muslims. There is no issue with that. The issue is their persecution, be it just one incidence, it should be taken seriously.

You don't sign this on Passport renewals, just when issuing a new passport.

Thank god I've never had to go through the disgrace of signing this abhorrent document, at some point my parents must have done it when I was a kid and since then its just being renewed.

As far as memory serves me I've never signed it.

Yeh haraamkhor, Amreeka ke ghulam, buzdil, phatoo, bikaoo, apni maan ko bechnay wali government ko main Musalmaan honay ki declaration kyun doon?

Jo Shahadat hum khuda ke saamne detay hain, woh inko dena shirk hai!

It's a simple process... on Pakistani passport it is written whether you are a Muslim or not. It is also a requirement when you travel to Saudi Arabia and you have to sign similar declarations to confirm that you are a Muslim. You remember that non-Muslims are not allowed to enter Makkah and Madina (agreeing or disagreeing is not a topic here so please no reply)

Basically if you claim to be a Muslim you can sign it and you are good to go. If you are not a Muslim do not sign it and the passport will still be issued to you with the same rights as a Pakistani. Only difference is it will confirm that you are not a Muslim since every sect of Islam is agreed on the fact the Qadiyanis are non-Muslim so I don't see any major issue here.

If they do not write the religion like on European passports, this script would also be deleted but this is not a case right now. I am personally in favour of keeping the passport clean from religion

To quote Mr. Jinnah himself:

'You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed—that has nothing to do with the business of the State.'

Unfortunately, this principle was not followed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan is the only country who has a religion section in their passport

To all pea sized Brains..

The declaration is not for Non-Muslims..Its for Muslims only..
If you are a Muslim you wont have any trouble in sighning the declaration..
If you are a non muslim you dont have to sign it....

I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan is the only country who has a religion section in their passport

No we in UK had to declare our Religion this time round while filling in the electoral register form...It was mendatory and an arrestable offense not to declare it..
