Another test of Agni-III in the offing: DRDO

Sunday, 14 January , 2007, 14:33

New Delhi: Indicating that another test of the country's most advanced nuclear-capable Agni-III missile is in the offing, top defence scientist M Natarajan on Sunday said the DRDO was close to developing a supersonic fighter trainer.

"Along with undertaking full development of the air force and naval versions of the LCA, we have developed the capability of making in the shortest time of next 10 years a supersonic fighter trainer," Natarajan said during an appearance in the show "In Conversation" on Doordarshan.

The second test of the Agni-III was in the offing, he said. The first launch of the missile last year was a failure.

The chief of the Defence Research and Development Organisation said a multi-mode radar had been mounted on the LCA for the first time.

A breakthrough had been made in installing a phased array radar on the LCA and a beyond visual range air-to-air missile was also in the final stages of development, he said.

"The LCA will give India a platform to develop a medium combat aircraft of 20 tonnes soon," he said while facing a barrage of questions on the huge time and cost over-runs in the DRDO's strategic weapons programmes.

ADUX what do you really think I mean your opinion about the above will they be able to do what they say or is this just another 10 year hide and seek ?

Murad,

If you are talkin about LCA, 3 years from now it will be ready for induction. There are 4 prototypes flying with 600hours of test flight hours under them, Kaveri is a long way off, but we still have access GE-404 engines,Agni- III its a long way off for batallion induction i would say 5-7 years.
For our Next fighter, Technologies are now in place, so i would say 10-15 years, I dont buy their 10 years flat time..That is plain bullshit

Two main reasons they have bucked up their job a lil bit, now they have a greater resources, access to technology and our stupid babu's are really bothered about China and also have increased DRDO's salary.

Second, Media.. Our media has changed so much in the last 5 years, with all the catchin of politicans with money, other sting operations, Public opinion genreation and other social activism, pro-peace with pakistan while pro-parity with China.

So what happened in the last 10 years cant stand for what might happen in the next 10 years, since all the equations have changed.
Yesterday media was up in the arms on why the Indian Public and Indian government doesnt honor its dead soldiers or even the retired ones.
barkha Dutt started the whol revolution with NDTV telecasting from the frontlines during Kargil.

Things are looking bright, now we want the corrupt politicans out, we could ship them over to you if you want them

At the same time there are negative points, such as the private sector pay is really good for no-good jobs, as well famous brain drain to the west. So good players might be leaving the DRDO's

Only time will tell

Let it take 40yrs, it is still a good end product, Now i am here to dicuss seriosuly and not use excessive smiley's to prove my point. Do you know that LCA is 95% carbon composite, i am not into nationalistic jingoisim, I believe in logistics and economic capability.

.
Agni-3 has a range of 4500kms- 5500kms, i dont exactly know about it, but i will definitly do a lil more research
