We can play against Pakistan only in India: BCCI chief
November 20, 2015
BIPIN DANI
MUMBAI - Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar has said that they have reasons playing against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and they can play the series only in India.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Nagpur for the first time on this issue, Manohar said: "I am fed up with the statements made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan. Every day, he is coming out with different reports. I have made it clear to him that team India can play against Pakistan only in India.” "Yes, we have our own reasons to decline playing in the UAE. We cannot reveal the same,” he added.
When asked whether the BCCI would play against Pakistan for their home series in any other country, Manohar said: “It is a hypothetical question. As on now, we only want them to come to India for this bilateral series.”
Apparently, the reasons for not playing in the UAE are not revealed to Shaharyar Khan also. Not only the PCB officials but the officials in the UAE also have no clue on it.
When contacted, Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) vice chairman M Redha Abbas said: “Only the BCCI can say why they are reluctant to play here. They successfully hosted the IPL matches here and are aware about the facilities available in this country. The safety and security of the players are also known to them.”
“The population of Indians is almost doubled than Pakistanis in this country. Why are they being deprived of seeing their players in action,” Redha Abbas, who was an ECB executive member and chairman of the selection committee, wondered.
The final round of talks between the two boards - BCCI and PCB - may be held in Dubai later this week when Manohar is set to seek the charge of the ICC's chairman post.
