Was the Bangladeshi MIG 29's necessary?

What I think is that Bangladesh does not have any MAJOR enemy states so I think that BD should focus on the infrastructure developement for now. Burma is a substantial threat, but I think the current millitary formation is enough to defend Burma. Army is in a good shape, Airforce will do for now but the navy needs a little more support......By the way does anybody know the size of the SWADS(Special Warfare Diving and Salvage)? Wikipedia says it's classified.......and is it comapred with the navy SEALS of US and SAS of UK?

As far as SWADS is concerned, its size and strength are classified. And since 95% of all initial applicants fail to be a part of that team, it is safe to assume that this group is small. It is probably one of the best Special Forces teams standing today.

I don't think the Myanmar Navy is that strong though.

No, Mig deal was not quite wasteful. At $18 million a piece Mig-29 it was a bargain. Today it is more expensive. BD needs many more Migs and other defensive weapons so that an enemy cannot bring war upon it for fear of a bloody nose.

BD may buy one or two squadrons of Mig-29SMT from Russia. Russia is very angry with India for the latter's decision to choose european fighters instead of Russian. It has cancelled a number of joint naval exercise with India to show its displeasures. Russia needs other markets for its Migs. BD can be one of them considering it has already purchased this from Russia.

Read newspapers printed in Europe to get the accurate information, why Russia is angry with India. India does not want to purchase russian because their commercial attitude is not professional, they always demand more than the agreed price of a good. Example, your purchase of Aircraft carrier. Russia does not supply spares as per schedule and quantity. Now, india suddenly chooses european jets at the great displeasure of Russia. Is it my own story? Or you do not read anything better than the trashes written in your Hindi?

FC-1 or Migs are only to play an intermittent role. BD will purchase a few squadrons of 4++ generation fighters in the next 5 years.
