In A marked difference from the border ceremony on the India-Pakistan frontier, retreat ceremonies planned for the India-Bangladesh border will include renditions from the works of famous Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, who spoke about undivided Bengal.

India and Bangladesh decided to organise retreat ceremonies at four places on their frontier after talks in March between their border forces. It was also decided to keep the ceremony cordial, devoid of any feet stomping or aggressive body language.

The ceremony will be held at Petrapole-Benapole and Siliguri in West Bengal and Changrabandha-Burimari and Akhaura in Tripura.

Following the meeting, the BSF proposed inclusion of the works of Nazrul, who was known for his bidrohi (rebel) writings. Nazrul was born in Churulia in present day West Bengal but moved to Bangladesh on its invitation in 1972.

"We decided to include Kazi Nazrul Islam's works as we wanted to do something which projected the common history of both countries. If people from both sides of the border come to watch the ceremony, they should go back with a slice of history. Moreover, it should project the culture of Bengal," said B D Sharma, ADG, BSF.

"The ceremonies will be held from Friday to Sunday as the weekend in Bangladesh starts on Friday itself," he said. The BSF has engaged famous Bengali singer Nirmalya Roy and dancer Alokananda Roy to choreograph the show.

"Everything is in place. Our men are already trained to perform such parades. We will also include school children from both sides in the ceremony. Besides parades, it will also have dance and music," another officer said.

IMHO , the wagah ceremony itself is not needed .

Now we are adding one more in bangladesh border . A complete waste.

Valid

When relations get strained participation or non participation in such ceremonies will / can be used as a means of leverage by any side.

Today they may be with no stomping of feet , whats stopping some tin head on either side of wanting his side to start it ?

Do we need such ceremonies ?

I think not.

1. This is an old project which has found no enthusiasm in BD. With border killings going on and erection of barbed wire fencing continuing India is no more than an unfriendly neighbor. Such ceremonies would be out of place under these circumstances. We also must remember it was through a border milon mela / get together ceremony that Indian elements were able to sneak in for the Peelkhana strike.

2. Nazrul is a poet who cried for freedom and justice. He has brought into Bengalee literature Arabic, Persian and Urdu words that Bengalee Muslims use daily but were avoided in formal writing. His "Chal chal chal" has been adopted as the regimental song of the E Bengal Regt. Perhaps Sheikh Mujib hasn't done a better service to BD than to practically hijack Nazrul from the slums of Calcutta and install him as our national poet. He is a poet who aroused the Bengalee speaking Muslims like none other.

3. If India is proposing to be a friendly neighbor then not these antics, but sincerity and honorable conduct would be more appropriate.

The wagah monkey dance ceremonies are a joke anyway.

How is putting a barbed wire unfriendly? You know what is unfriendly, showing up uninvited into a foreign country in millions. You are lucky that India has a large heart, and out of the millions that illegally migrate, only a few get shot. In terms of % of people being shot, the number is actually quite low. If you had to illegally immigrate, why bother separating in the first place along religious lines?

Now that you have separated in 1947, you are a separate country, and have the responsibility to look after your own citizens... Dont make them intentionally jump fences illegally and play the victim....

Here starts the story telling again..

Link to the part in Red above please.

Next read carefully, its not India's idea alone, read this :

' India and Bangladesh decided to organise retreat ceremonies at four places on their frontier after talks in March between their border forces."

Such ceremonies do not serve any purpose - nor do unsubstantiated comments.

India is not ' proposing' to be a friendly neighbor - not any more than it is - the ceremony appears to be a mutual decision.

If you must then find fault with GoBD instead.

As Sir, what would that be?

It is unfriendly because unlike earlier times when bangladeshis could walk into India now they have to pole vault above the fences .

Evil Indians ...... :D

Some responsibilit falls on your own people and govt too.

To stop cow smuggling why dont you shoot and kill cows on border instead of human.

And also why dont you ask your BSF not to allow smugglers after taking bribes.

Cows being shot by BSF are as likely as a practicing Muslim burning his Quran. Simply wont happen as it is highly prohibited in India.

As for bribes, they are trained not to take them. A few bad officers might exist, but thats about it.

The topic is shooting, I dont like to get shot, so I stay away from International borders. Bangladeshis looking not to get shot should look to do the same...

Mate, how can you train someone for not taking bribe???
