What's new

Visit Of General Solly Zacharia Shoke ,Chief of South African National Defence Force to POF Wah,on24

It hoping against hope sir. But as i also said, YOU NEVER KNOW!!

Anyway, for now, this remains a good will visit with Pakistan military top brass showing the delegation various products and the facilities where they are being manufactured. In FUTURE we may see some further collaboration with SA on defense matters and production.
The SANDF chief's visit was shortly followed by the South African MoD, who signed an MoU in Pakistan for enhancing defence ties, including ToT with arms purchases, joint collaboration, etc. We now have tacit South African gov't approval to engage with Denel, Paramount, etc, which we didn't before. So I think this will give both sides a good footing for engagement.

South African Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Federal Minister for Defence of Pakistan Khawaja Muhammad Asif, her department said on Monday

The MoU on “Defence and Defence Industrial Cooperation” establishes a Joint Defence Committee which will pave the way for strengthening and diversifying through formal structures, collaborative programmes, exchange of information and training of the armed forces officers or soldiers, the department said.

“Acquisition of defence equipment as well as cooperation in Research and Development (R&D), Transfer of Technology, Co-production/Joint Ventures in public as well as private sector, also fall within the domain of the signed MoU,” the department said in a statement.

May be the T5-52 SPH got the nod of approval after evaluation (it was being evaluated along side Nora B52.

yes, they are bunch of political appointments from ANC's MK cadres. rubbish moves to the top. That is why i left. There is now a fresh air of innovation with the same spirit of the 70/80s/early 90s. I might go back to one of the new innovators.

I dont see any Africans representation in the SA army chief entourage. Dont know the internal politics of SA, but is there some sort of reverse racism going about?

Denel will likely make way more out of Pakistan's armoured vehicles, artillery, air-to-ground munition, air-to-air munition and surface-to-air munition needs. It would be interesting though if Denel, Paramount, PAC, GIDS, ID, etc, can collaborate (bilaterally or multilaterally) on UAVs, light aircraft, aerostructure work (e.g. composites), etc.
agreed. we need a steady market.

It's also funny that the Denel T5-52 uses a Tatra 815 8x8 truck. Tatra is a Czech company. Can you imagine if the T5-52, future MRLS, etc result in us assembling Tatra trucks? And then factor in CZ. Heck, add Aero Vodochody and the L-159 for FCU and we have the full package.

G5 is a towed unit which is pulled by SAMIL trucks. T5 is a stop gap for people who dont want to invest in G6.

Sir jee collaboration at this level, cooperation at such high tech things like light fighters and combat UAVs, information and technology sharing on these and co development needs serious diplomatic clout and persuasion. Sadly, our current political leadership is more concerned about Panama than about Pakistan and in this scenario I do not see us being able to convince a country like South Africa (with serious Indian influence) to co-develop such equipment. However stranger things have happened and you never know, but logically speaking, looking at the things at hand, I would say that IFVs, APC, artillery is pretty much all we can work on.
To clarify, we dont have indian influence as such. This is a very diverse and ethnically mixed country. We have people here from 300 years back from a land called India - Tamils etc etc - that does not mean much. However the Zuma clan is in bed with an recent Indian transplants in 1995- Gupta brothers who have used undue influence on getting deals; the public backclash has been heavy and they fled and are sitting in Dubai in fear. They have now tried to take a cut in arms deals by setting up Denel Asia - It has nothing to do with us but just be wary of these parasites.

Agree with your comment about T5-52, however that gun itself offers a lot. I mean, while G6 have its own advantages there are some aspects where T5-52 is on par if not better.

G6 offers better protection being mine protected and carried more rounds, 47 compared to the 27 carried by T5-52. The max range (vehicle) of both is same with T5 at 600/650 and G6 at 800 km. Max speed is not much different either with 85km/hr for T5 and 90 for G6. However T5-52 have a response time, in and out of action, of 60 sec compared to G6 response time or shoot and scoot ability of 120 sec. Both have a 6 men crew (although the G6 improved variants have a crew of 4-5). T5-52 is significantly lighter than G6 (28t compared to 46t).

understood. Ijust feel this way because of a large Indian community present there. Have worked with a few companies in SA (in textiles) and know quite a few people there. Just mentioned what I felt working with them. However you are there, you must be right. Thanks for mentioning and explaining this in detail. J

Yes quite correct. T5 was in response to many inquiries from overseas and you really have not felt the ground 2km away when the G6 is on a roll. The ground vibrates especially when it travelling in convey with the Ratels. G6 is a complete package with very significant reasons. As I have said many times before, we went away from tracked vehicles back as part of our doctrine of very long range ops and minimal logistics support lead to entire wide range of equipment which has continued to give rise to newer generations.

Indeed, we have cape Malays - they are from Java - Indonesia who arrived 300 years ago. Nearly a million of them in the cape province.
