Vietnam to teach Chinese language in primary school from 2017

I think the reason is that the Ministry do not want to propose to add Chinese language alone.

As China is our largest trading partner for a long time to come, it is foreseeable that if given the choice, most parents will want to see their children to study Chinese and neglect Russian.

Have you ever been to Vietnam?

In Hanoi, language centers which teach Chinese are abundant. For Russian, I do not know anyone, except the Russian culture center near Lotte tower (I studied Russian for 9 years and still like its culture. However, it is no use now). If given the choice, most parent will prefer their children to study Chinese. I myself want my children to study Chinese more than English. English should be second one.

In addition, Chinese characters are still used in old and new company / shop names and increasingly used in various other aspects of daily life.
There are a large number of Vietnamese students in China.
Welcome!

I was a little shocked to know, Chinese pop culture is quite popular in Vietnam.
I witnessed that in lots of hostels where people stared at TV and ignored my question where was the best pho eatery!

No offence....do you guys pay them money?
You know, Chinese video websites have to pay millions of dollars to buy the online copyright of a soapies....
And you just watch them for free!!!

When I was doing TA in the US as a master student around 2009-2010, I had a whole 80 students taking the required undergrad American National Government class.

I had two East Asian students, both of them from Vietnam. With no exaggeration, they were the best and brightest in the class, writing excellent documentary and article critiques.

East Asian students are the most hardworking. I am sure that the language program will bear fruit and contribute to social and professional interaction between the two neighbors.

AFAIK, i don't think in Ha Noi language centers which teach Chinese are that abundant. Majority are studying English, and majority of people in our country study 2nd language is due to Job purpose and small segment are due to interest in pop culture, study history, working condition, job opportunity....In Hanoi, there are much lesser job opportunities in Chinese/Taiwanese companies than Japanese and US/UK or English speaking companies (AEC will be speaking English is another factor I guess), if you want mention the South then can be possibly because there are a lot of investment from HK, Taiwan and Singapore in the industrial zone recently. Mainland China just starting to invest in VN recently though. That's why I don't think there are many Chinese language learners. And Russian and Chinese just recently be added in Primary School ( I think due to spur in investment mb or increase in tourist from those countries that Tourist agencies recently reported lack of worker whose speak those language to meet the demand in market
There are 6 foreign language subjects that teach in Primary school now that takers can choose: English, Chinese, Japanese, German, Russian and French. And in Secondary and high school there is specialist class for those who want master it like first language speaker.

Is that Lotte tower in Đào Tấn? They have Cung Hữu Nghị also if u want master it like first language.

That's interesting that many companies use Chinese character, can you gives example? I think mb more like Chinese origin work written in Latin character. There is survey language choice chart:

Chinese government gives a lot movie and entertainment related goods to VN government for free or sell very cheap price, it is same strategy apply by S.Korean government before Korean Wave. They have channel for Korean-sponsor movie, drama and song like TodayTV and VTC7. Very few Japanese movie or European in general for high cost paid for copyright issue, most of the film is like movie with very few eposide ( less than 30) and mostly broadcast on foreign news channel (for those want study language) in the weekend (Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sunday). If very popular movies it will be on official channel, national channel, domestic channel from like 18:00-19:00.

Maybe or maybe not, to be able to get pay from youtube you must get certain number of subscriber, enable Monetization and have Adsense account right? i don't think many Vietnamese got Adsense account - i can be wrong with that

Sorry for my late response.

Now I do not care much about learning foreign languages. But just some years ago, in almost every big language centers in Hanoi, 04 languages were advertised (Anh, Trung, Nhật, Hàn - English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, in that order). If one want to learn other languages, he had to find specialized centers.

Today in Vnexpress.net, professor Ngô Bảo Châu (who won Field Medal 2010) gave his advice about the necessity of learning Chinese.
