Vietnam-Laos Friendship Year is a success

The Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2012 is a success, affirmed Vietnamese and Lao top leaders at a press conference in Hanoi on December 26.

The conference was co-chaired by President Truong Tan Sang and visiting General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone.

President Sang said that over the past year, Vietnam and Laos have closely coordinated in organising a wide range of activities that drew the participation of agencies at all levels and people from all strata in both countries.

Grand meetings were held in each country’s capital city to mark the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and 35 years of the signing of their Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.

Vietnam hosted the third Vietnam-Laos People’s Friendship Festival while Laos’ Savannakhet province also organised a meeting celebrating the Vietnam-Laos special relationship and combatant alliance.

Ministries, agencies and localities, especially those along the border, coordinated in organising many practical activities during the year.

The two countries’ people enthusiastically took part in a contest on the history of the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam special relationship, reflecting their aspiration and determination to preserving and fostering the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.

President Sang also highlighted bilateral economic cooperation in 2012, with two-way trade estimated at nearly 1 billion USD. At present, Vietnam has 440 projects in Laos with a total investment of 5.38 billion USD, becoming one of the largest among 58 investors in Laos.

In education and training, close to 6,500 Lao officials and students are studying in Vietnam while about 500 Vietnamese students are pursuing their study in Laos.

“2012 was a significant year in the social and political life of the two peoples as well as an important milestone in the Vietnam-Laos relation, helping young generations better understand the close and faithful attachment between the two countries,” the president said.

He stressed that the results and spirit of the year will be an important momentum for lifting the special relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples to a new height, in the interest of the two countries’ people as well as for peace and prosperous development in the region.

President Sayasone said that the Friendship and Solidarity Year has wrapped up but the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples will exist forever.

Despite any changes in regional and world situation, the Lao Party and State leaders and people will continue to join their Vietnamese counterparts to preserve that special relation, considering it an invaluable asset and a rule of existence and development of the two nations as well as an inexhaustible source of encouragement on their development paths, he stressed.

Second: Mr. Hun Sen who pro VNstil is real powerful leader until now , and his supporter: Gen. Tea Banh is Defence Minister , Gen. Meas Sophea(Vietnamese-Cambodian) is Army Chief now.

Hope u're not stupid to believe that VNese-Cambodian like Mr.Meas Sophea will support China against VN , VNese is control Cambodia army now

This's ur best frined Hun Sen, the guy has one right eye but he is not blind, he know which's the best friend China or Vietnam? Hun Sen and his wife all have Chinese blood.

Cambodia King have NO real power. But only King Sihanouk and Sihamoni still on the top, and Cambodian ppl still believe their Kings, China continue to own huge influence in Cambodia. We(China) support the King and Cambodia Kingdom, ur indochina just a wet dream.

China/Russia/US won't support ur dream, other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malanxiya, Indonesia also won't support ur guys. If we(China) ever supported North Vietnam to beat South, now we still have more strength to support ROV back here, playing Agent War for many years. U will pay for ur Arrogant and Fool.

“It would prevent Rainsy, the leader of the opposition, to have a plete role, presence for the campaign towards the election. This would really impair the election,” she said.

Prince Ranariddh filed a criminal defamation suit in , after Sam Rainsy accused him of accepting bribes to form a coalition government with the prime ministers ruling Cambodian Peoples Party.

The second defamation case was a countersuit that Hun Sen filed last September. Sam Rainsy had filed a suit, which he ultimately lost, accusing the prime minister of masterminding a grenade attack on an opposition rally in .

Judge Chiv Keng said Sam Rainsy had acted with ill will and used his influence to tarnish the reputation of the countrys leaders. He handed down a pair of twin sentences, ordering Sam Rainsy to serve nine months in prison in each of the cases, pay approximately , each in fines, and , each in pensation to the plaintiffs.

Sam Rainsy went into exile last February after the parliament stripped his parliamentary immunity. Lawyer Som Chandina, who represented him at trial, argued that the defendant had only expressed ideas for social change.

The Cambodian government insists Hun Sen and Ranariddh filed the lawsuits to defend their reputations, but rights groups consider the litigation a form of political warfare on dissenters.

New Yorkbased Human Rights Watch this week called on the government to end “spurious, politically motivated criminal lawsuits as a way to silence its critics.”

At least seven critics of a controversial new border treaty with Vietnam also face criminal lawsuits ordered by Hun Sen. In October, a radio journalist and union president who publicly opposed the treaty were arrested, and are being held without bail on charges of defamation and incitement. Human Rights Watch, the United States and the European Union have all called for their immediate release.

Another opposition lawmaker was jailed in February, and yet another fled the country, like Sam Rainsy, for fear of arrest.

Members of the Sam Rainsy Party are struggling to maintain a united front as they face local and national elections over the next three years.

Cambodia is independence kingdom, and it will be a independence country forever. Im sure China will try our best of efforts to keep Peace and Stability in Southeast Asia, any country or organization wanna undermine regional stability, China will do our best to defend PEACE and China interests in this area.

2008 Georgia want to recover lost ground, but Russia defended their interests and teach lessons. So China had taught a lesson before, i strongly suggest never twice.
