well, I bought the book. some realistic points as the author assumes: china leadership loses the patience and decides to launch the first strike. the order: China southern and eastern naval fleets supported by an army of marines to invade the islands currently occupied by vietnam, japan and philippines: code name: trident. the invasion is covered by fake naval exercises.
however, Vietnam intel captures the message and carries out the preemptive strike: the Liaoning aircraft carrier is the first target.
so easy, destroy all your airports & naval port is a piece of cake for second artillery, they can cover all your land with EMP. without airports & naval port, how can your fighters take off, where can you battleship anchor? This is only discussion, so feel free to persuade us that tactic works. you could always do that .
Like :
Where Chinese fighter would take off ?
How far they reach the destination
How they manage to get aerial refueling on way forth and back
How long they spend for refuel
How they protect their tanker supply
How long they could engage in air combat
How many could refueling at the same time.
....
well, VN together with Japan, S Korea and India establish a military alliance with the aim to cripple China naval fleets and economy. Later comes Taiwan to the alliance. the conflict slowly escalates and turns to a fullscale war at sea and on land. the tipping point comes when China launches ground invasion to Vietnam and fires massive missiles attacks on Tokyo. a sabotage of chinese hackers causes a Shinkansen train to derail causing enormous casualties. Japan returns by firing strategic ballistic missiles on Beijing. So what happens in the book? You have me curious now...
