A clip from the video showing an employee put a gol gappa to the test.

KARACHI: Employees of the US Consulate General in Karachi on Friday released a video on their Facebook page sharing their first experience tasting ‘gol gappas’.

Ten employees of the US Consulate staff were part of the intriguing video, which seemed like an attempt by the US embassy to soften the image of staff working in Pakistan. Puzzled by the texture and look of the treat, the employees at first seemed perplexed over how to attempt to eat the savoury dish.

One employee said, “I think you pour the sauce in the centre,” while another described how they looked like a “bird’s nest”.

Despite the apparent confusion and initial hesitancy, a majority of the employees liked the taste of the dish and used an interesting variety of words to describe the taste. Crispy, sour, spicy and crunchy were just some of them.

One employee even termed it a “chick-pea surprise” while another sang a melodic number about the snack, singing “gol gappay wala aya”

Whatever they are doing is for better relations with Pakistan and creating better image of US in the minds of Pakistanis. THIS IS CALLED POLITICS!

Yes Dear...I am very much aware of this concept...But sorry it sucks...You want to improve relation with a country by giving a 1 min idiotic video in which a bunch of people are forced to gulp down an alien stuff(which is not THAT good either)...maybe making up for the kerry donuts which... but that is just plain pathetic and insulting...why not give zulu's or vipers to improve relations huh? On one side you're droning the shit out of Pakistan and on the other hand these sorry videos...ha!

Goodness gracious, there are some right miserable people on PDF. Listen, for those asking why is this video a headline etc etc, stop being negative. This is a nice feel good article in a country where there is not much to feel good about. Try picking up a Pakistani Newspaper, it's almost always guaranteed to be negative headlines.

Thank you to the US Consulate in Karachi and Express Tribune for this feel good article. Made me feel good and proud anyway.

United States has done a lot for Pakistan, a lot really. However, as the famous Urdu proverb goes " بد سے بدنام برا ", the perception of US in Pakistan is bad and there are lots of reasons for that. As a lay person, what makes me hate the US most? I guess it is US support for the Pakistani ruling elite, which has done little if any for the collective welfare of the ordinary Pakistanis. Irony is, it is the same Pakistani ruling elite (that has benefited most from US) that tells lies to Pakistanis and present the US as the villain. Think it for a moment, we lay blame on US for leaving us alone in 1965 but whatever war we fought, we fought primarily using the US weapons. We could have lasted for no longer than few days had we had not using technologically better US weapons systems. Again in 1971, we did lose East Pakistan but it was Nixon who prevented Indira from invading the West Pakistan otherwise after the fall of Dhaka, how high was the morale of our troops and the nation? Lets not forget US help during Kargill. So it is not that US has always backstabbed us rather our ruling elite that has been telling us wrong things all along the way.

What and how much do you know about Americans? How much history have you read? Name a few books if you will! The member you are addressing to has more experience under his belt than the total years of your age. Instead of learning from seniors, you are hellbent on teaching them. Not good my friend.

I 100% agree to what you've said...On one side you're droning in Pakistan( Lets keep aside the topic ''innocent / terrorist dead'' by droning)...Is that a good image US is trying to portray of Pakistan...and you want to neutralize the drone effects by this pitty video...
