Silly question don't you think some one showing mirror to our nation that what sort of corrupt people we are voting for and you are basically asking virtues of unmasking of criminals. Zardari was called Mr 10% for a reason and same applies to our beloved highness lion Mr Nawaz Sharif. No wonder Chinese used to avoid in seeing Zardari when his demands went out of control.
Government have decided to set up the inquiry and what that will that achieve, one corrupt is going to inquire about the another corrupt. Once the news will get old and lime light is gone off the case and then case will show up in the court, judge will demand his share of the loot and the people in question will be free again. Why not investigate this case in the anti terrorism court and if proven summarily execute the culprits as this is doing more damage to our country then even terrorism did.

To contest, a candidate must be a Pakistani citizen of 30 years of age or above. He/she must have one Proposer, and one Seconder, who endorse and support the candidacy.



Senators in Pakistan are elected to office for a period of six years, even though elections are held after every three years to replace half the house. This ensures some continuity in the upper house when new parliaments are made after national elections.



A total of 104 members sit in the Senate. On the day of the vote, members of the national and provincial assembly will be given four slips of paper and they will name their candidates on the basis of priority, therefore, 1,2,3.



The maths to determine the exact quota of the vote each candidate should receive is worked out by diving the total value of votes. Take Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There are 124 electors and each vote is assigned the value of 100.



124 x 100 = 1,2400


Divide this by the number of vacant seats, 7 + 1 =8.


The total is now 1,550. Then, add 1 to the final answer, which makes it 1,551. Now remove the last two digits and we are left with 15, add another one to it and we will have 16. Which means that each candidate in KP must get 16 votes.



Using the same formula, 171 votes in National Assembly will be required for a Senator to be elected from Islamabad, 46 for Punjab, 21 for Sindh and 8 for Balochistan.







When a candidate gets the required priority votes, his remaining Priority 1 votes will be transferred to the candidate on 2nd priority. A process that continues until the required number of Senators are elected.

ISLAMABAD: A video has surfaced which exposed the horse-trading during Senate elections in 2018 by some party lawmakers who could be seen as counting bundles of currencies and hiding it inside the bag, ARY News reported on Tuesday.


The video obtained by ARY News shows how the loyalty of 20 lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was changed after horse-trading during Senate elections in 2018. The lawmakers had been ousted from the political party by the central leadership after holding a thorough investigation.

It exposed that PTI lawmakers had been made hefty payments in 2018 during Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) polls. The lawmakers can be seen counting banknotes and putting it inside a bag.
Sources told ARY News that the vote-trading had been carried out from February 20 to March 2, 2018.

In 2021, Prime Minister Imran Khan had expressed aims to hold Senate elections through the open ballot in 2021 in order to eliminate the menace of vote-trading in the country.
The federal government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had prepared an ordinance to pave way for holding the Upper House polls via open vote besides moving to the Supreme Court (SC) for the determination of legalities of the law.

On the other hand, the major opposition parties including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) have strongly opposed the legislation to hold Senate polls by open vote.
In a statement, PM Imran Khan said that he was fully aware of the menace of horse-trading in Senate polls continued for the last three decades. He said that 20 members of provincial assembly (MPAs) had been ousted from PTI in 2018 over their involvement in vote trading.

The premier revealed that the PTI MPAs had traded their vote worth Rs50 million each during the polls in 2018. He added that bidding process is started once again ahead of Senate polls this year and he was also aware of the persons behind it.

On February 6, President Dr Arif Alvi had signed Elections (Amendment) ordinance 2021 that will pave way for the organisation of Senate elections through the open ballot.
According to the Ordinance, a copy of which available with ARY News, changes have been brought to Sections 81, 122 and 185 of the Constitution. The ordinance will come into force “at once” and “extended to the whole of Pakistan.”
