Vestas takes on 100-MW wind project in Pakistan

Feb 17, 2015 (SeeNews) - Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) will develop a 100-MW wind project in Pakistan under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government of Sindh province.

According to an official statement, the project is planned to expand to as much as 300 MW at a later stage. Vestas will be in charge of the engineering and associated technical services. The firm and the Danish embassy will also facilitate the financing process.

Gerard Carew, Vestas' vice president of sales in the Asia Pacific region, noted that the company wants to grow its business in Pakistan. According to its website, Vestas has installed 28 turbines with a combined capacity of 50 MW there so far. That happened in 2012.

In June 2014, at a local wind energy seminar, Vestas representatives said the Danish firm is ready to share its knowledge and resources with Pakistani investors and support the growth of the country’s wind industry

It is the same company that Iran had paid to build wind turbines in Iran but then they refused to honor the agreement invoking sanctions, and refused to provide the turbines.

That was ten years ago.

Iran reverse engineered their designs. And here are the turbines being manufactured by Iran at a fraction of cost:

Who said anything about investment. No body needs your investment. I just noted there that this company has a history of not fulfilling its obligations and changing the terms of contract in the middle of the way. So be careful about that. In other words, lets see if they will actually build anything. Got that now?

They are the leaders in this field and have a solid reputation which keeps them at the top. If they flip flop, they taint their credibility in the international circuit. Sindh government can get Siemens or some other reputed firm to get the job done. This is what business transactions are all about.
