Beijing: Pakistan is "very concerned" with the development of the Indian navy which has emerged as "very powerful", Pakistan naval chief, Admiral Asif Sandila said today.

"The Indian navy is very strong I must say," Admiral Sandila, who is in China for the 65th anniversary celebrations of the Chinese navy told China's state-run Global Times.

"India is a big nation which has over one billion people. It has made a very powerful navy and continues to develop the navy forces," he said in reply to a question about his assessment of the Indian navy.

"On the other hand, Pakistan and India do not have very friendly relations at the moment, which makes people in Pakistan very concerned about the development of the Indian navy," he said.

"At the same time, we would like to do what we want to do if there's any threat to us. I don't want to say the threat can only come from one place, it can come from anywhere, but we want to be ready for that," Admiral Sandila said.

He stressed that the Chinese navy should play a bigger global role including in the Indian Ocean.

"The Chinese navy in my assessment has a very important role to play all over the world, not only in the South China Sea, or the Pacific and the India Ocean. China is a big power now and China has powerful navy forces," he said.

"Today the Chinese navy is operating for international causes. And of course they continue to play a very important role in anti-piracy in the gulf. China is also helping so many countries in Africa and Asia, I don't know how it can become a threat," he said.

This means ISI is planning something concernful to weaken INS internally.

And so are Haiti, Somalia, Liechtenstein, etc. (you get the drift?) concerned about US military and in particular Navy :(

It's high time we allow our navy to develop to fully tackle the Indian navy.

Well considering the PN gets a PITIFUL budget every year, we are talking sub $500mn for capex the PN chief is right to be concerned just like the IN Chief is right to be concerned by the better funded PLA(N). However whilst the latter scenario isn't all that worrying for India for numbers reasons the IN's dominance across board of the PN is, indeed, something Pakistanis should be worried out. With the PN receiving the smallest allocation of Pak's defence budget year on year out and Pakistan's historic neglect of their navy and subsequent poor performance of it in conflict times this isn't going to be a quick fix, not by a long shot. One has to hope (if you're a Pakistani) that big brother China will come to the aid really as the PN's inferiority exposes the PA and PN equally.

Damn!! the PA, PAF. PN chief's, the PM and Pakistani delegation seem to be on a round robin trip to Saudi Arabia, China and Russia constantly - must be raking in a lot of frequent flier miles.

on the thread topic: Just another attempt at getting some more freebies from China and showing solidarity for their lame duck attempt at spreading their navy all over the world.

If budget was the issue then he should be crying in the Pakistani parliament, why cry over China's shoulder?

first of all if this definition of crying than your whole country crying from the day of your independence :)
secondly he is only expressing his concerns , china is our strong ally and our most of naval assets will be coming from china in future :)
