MacDill AFB, Fla. (November 28, 2011) — The commander of U.S. Central Command, Gen. James N. Mattis, has directed an investigation into the incident near the Salala Checkpoint, Khas Kunar Province, Afghanistan, in the vicinity of the Pakistan border on Nov. 25, which inflicted casualties on Pakistan military personnel.

General Mattis has appointed Brig. Gen. Stephen Clark from Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla., as the Investigating Officer. The inquiry will be CENTCOM-led with the support, cooperation and involvement of a NATO element on the investigation team.

Additionally, the investigation team has been directed to include input and participation from the International Security Assistance Force. The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Government of Pakistan will be invited to participate. It is USCENTCOM’s intent to include these government representatives to the maximum extent possible to determine what happened and preclude it from happening again.

The investigation team will focus their efforts on the facts of the incident and any matters that facilitate a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries of the Pakistan forces.

General Mattis has directed the investigating officer to provide an initial report by December 23, 2011.

The appointment letter for the U.S. investigating officer is provided: http://www.centcom.mil/images/stori...mo_af_pak_cross_border_incident_25_nov_11.pdf.

RAWALPINDI, (SANA): The military leadership has said that the NATO Commander in Afghanistan General Allen is responsible for the NATO attack on Pakistani check posts.

Director General Military Operations Major General Ashfaq Nadeem in a media briefing on Tuesday has said that the NATO had attacked Pakistani check posts intentionally not incidentally, adding that we do not have trust over the joint investigation and before this three joint investigations were held but no result was came out.

He said that it is before time to tell the reason and intentions of NATO attack on Pakistani check post, adding that the NATO attack is open aggression on Pakistan which should not be accepted at any cost.

He said that the attack was not incidental, adding that NATO attacked the Pakistani check posts having all information about the posts. More than two helicopters had taken fights over the check posts and opened fire over the check posts due to which the communication line cut off.

He said that should not have trust over the joint investigation, because before this we had conducted three joint investigations but no result came out, adding that the attacked check posts were newly established in September.

He said that the US had given 15 days time limit to evacuate the Shamsi airbase and if the base would not be evacuated in the time frame then other options would be considered to evacuate the base.

He said that NATO had conducted three attacks from 10 June 2000 to 30 September 2011 and we are not satisfied with the investigations conducted.

He said that the letters to get vacate the Shamsi airbase has been written by foreign office and chairman joint chiefs’ of staff committee to US officials.

He said that the fire on Salala check post continued for about two hours. Meanwhile Joint Chief of Staff Lt Gen Wahid Arshad was also present during the briefing.

John Allen must resigned from the commander position immediately!

There are already statements from senior US / NATO officials issued to media..
What is the point in investigating later and narrating the verdict in advance?

IMO, inquiry will pick one of the most plausible story out there!

I think even a child can see your collective hate towards Muslim world, such hateful events and news have always surfaced at the marking of Islamic holy days.

While, Pakistani sacrifice and favors meant nothing to you.

although the people of pakistan dont care anymore.and its evident from comments here and protestscacross the country that pakistan had enough of it and cant take it anymore.
but thanks anyway for keeping us updated.

what he will find is that it was an unprovoked CIA pre-planned attack, but he will never be allowed to release the full details.
