US wars leave 225,000 dead, cost $4.4 trillion: Study

Its just sad that the final costs aren’t going to be known for decades, if ever. Aside from costs to American taxpayers, the cost to Iraq and Afghanistan in repairing destroyed infrastructure, caring for people with disabilities and lost income from people who were killed may never be tallied.

5% of that could have helped alleviate poverty/HIV/AIDS in Africa.....it could have gone to the American domestic manufacturing industry which is in the decline. List is so endless

real tragedy is that the world is even more dangerous now --and some of that is because of wars in Iraq, Afghanistan --not to mention the counter-productive policies in the middle east such as blind support for certain countries at the expense of others (which is only fuelling divides, frustration and anger)

American people have sadly been misled into wars which have cost their country (and others) greatly --in monetary and non-monetary terms

very sad....especially for the shell-shocked American who wonders why they are constantly being lied to and expending huge sums overseas for no real benefit

For me, you are spot on - with one exception, I don't see any evidence that ordinary US persons are concerned about the lies - they really don't understand and they really really do not care to understand - unfortunately that luxury may be time limited for them.

A report has been unveiled by Brown University scholars tallying up the expense of American wars since 2001. The research found the battles in Iraq and Afghanistan have expense almost $4 trillion and have resulted in more than 250,000 fatalities. Since the Bush and Obama administrations have borrowed heavily to finance the war, the interest payments alone are staggering. These wars might be why the government is not rushing for installment loans to pay for everything else in the country.
