LAHORE: US Deputy Ambassador to Pakistan Jerrold Festaine said the US was also considering extending its consulate in Peshawar, Dunya news reported on Saturday.
The channel said the US wanted to purchase additional land in Islamabad for expanding the embassys compound. Festaine said several options were under consideration for the extension of the Peshawar consulate.
He said the extension work of the US consulate in Karachi would be completed within a year.
Festaine said the extension plan was not related to issuing new US visas. He said the extension was aimed at facilitating additional US staff needed to keep a check on the US aid being given to Pakistan.
