US supports TAPI but not Pak-Iran gas pipeline: Richard Olson

ha ha ha US caught between rock and a hard place.
If you want TAPI there must be IP first!!

And US puts sanctions then it cannot support TAPI which will have negative impact on Afghan-US, Tajik-US and India-US relations.

who the hell is amreeka to stop two neighboring countries from doing business..if their bottom is burning they should lay the TAPI on their own expense.

USA cannot stop two neighboring countries from doing business, that is correct. The problem arises when USA refuses to do business with any country that does business with Iran. That creates the issues for Pakistan.

Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline: In snub to US, China offers $500m loan.

IRAN / CHAHBAR:
The United States has made clear its strong stand against the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline – but the first world power will perhaps be further irritated to hear that China is backing it with a $500 million loan to Pakistan.

“In a major development, China has offered [the] loan,” an official at the Pakistan Embassy in Iran told The Express Tribune. The remaining $500 million would be generated through the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess from gas consumers.

Pakistan had earlier planned to generate the billion dollars through the tax and Iran will be putting in $500 million.

The geopolitical sands appear to be shifting on more than one front as this development comes days after Pakistan handed over to China control of its key Gwadar port in Balochistan.

In one of the boldest snubs of consistent US pressure and warnings, Islamabad and Tehran formally launched the project on Monday in an elaborate groundbreaking ceremony held at the Pakistan-Iran border.

Petroleum ministry officials confirmed that Pakistan is in the middle of procuring compressors and pipelines from a Chinese company and Iranian company Tadbir will do the construction. Pakistani companies such as Sui Northern Pipeline Limited, Sui Southern Gas Company Limited and Frontier Works Organisation would be involved.

The board of directors at the Interstate Gas Systems met March 8 to consider awarding the contract for the pipelines and compressors to Chinese company Panyn Chu King Steel Limited that will provide the pipeline at the rate of $1,650 per tonne, including compressors. The board will be negotiating for discounts with the Chinese firm.

Meanwhile, an Iranian company had quoted the price of $1,980 per tonne. An official said that Iranian contract prices would be turned down because they are higher.

The 1,600-kilometre pipeline, projected to cost a whopping $1.5 billion would enable the export of 21.5 million cubic meters of Iranian natural gas to Pakistan daily. The country hopes to overcome its energy crisis with the 4,000 Megawatts capacity of this project.

Is there any confirmation of this loan from the Governments of Pakistan and/or China?

You cant expect people to take stand for you unless you do it yourself. This project should had been started much earlier had we not have traitors and thugs as our rulers. If we choose carefully in the next election, this project will see completion Inshallah otherwise if the likes of Zardari and Co are elected again, then we can kiss it a Goodbye.

Rather than making this an anti-American initiative, can somebody throw light on the economics vis-a-vis both pipelines?

1. What is the cost of the gas for Pak via the IP and TAPI?
2. What is the revenue potential from other sources?
3. What is the potential loss economically of going through with the IP?

Cheers!

i think Pakistan is going down from all side .........is direct panga with USA .........sanctions will kill Pakistan .

We survived the Pressler Amendments, I think we're robust enough to survive whatever else they have to throw. Go ahead, try us.

Sorry, but just had to throw this on the thread.

Here fatman17 added a useful article may be passed through by your search, it gives true image what actually happened in IPGP.
In general EVERYTHING can be possible just need for devotion.

I don't know if IP succeeds or not but do you really think Iran will let TAPI pipeline go through?
It will be busted 100 times before it reaches Herat.

TAPI project not depends over IPGP but on Afghanistan's security situation. That's right that US came under some pressure because of current regional strategic needs but he try hard to workout TAPI project but Pakistan want in future TAP project results in another an issue. Till US deals with Pakistan in injustice way things not will solve as it was assumed.

Sedhay alfaaz may * to US! char ****
