This is excellent news. I think it is the first time that the US Congress has taken a concrete step to address India's concerns.

I wouldn't call it coercive diplomacy. I think its only fair that Pakistan agrees to certain terms and conditions before receiving such a huge amount of compensation for essentially defending itself - something that it should be doing without anybody's help in the ideal circumstances.

Ahem... U sure about that?

Hint...Hint... Major Non Nato Ally... Hint...Hint... Major Partner in GWOT... Hint... Hint.... ISreal...

Please stop with the double standards, we are impartial and can prove our worth...

Hahah... If you think at this time and moment that Pak needs the US more then friend you are surely mistaken. At this point in time, frankly the US need Pakistan much more then Pakistan needs the US.

The Trilateral Confrence will be a dead duck without Pakistan and US plans to come to some sort of agreement with the so called "moderate" Taliban will go down the plug hole. As for those indian's dreaming their lobbying is getting stroger please read this and enlighten yourself:

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said US has accepted Pakistan’s position on foreign troops as Pakistan won’t allow foreign troops on its soil.

Addressing a joint press conference with Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Richard Holbrooke, special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, foreign minister said drone attacks also came under discussion during meeting with US officials. We neither get nor give blank cheques. US also acknowledge anti- terror efforts made by Pakistan. Pakistan is defending its borders.

Qureshi said Afghganistan, US and Pakistan will hold talks on May 6-7 in Washington. War against terrorism is not possible without mutual trust. Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and seeking political support from ‘Friends of Pakistan’.

Foreign troops not acceptable: Pak

Read the key word "Pakistan is a victim of terrorism"

Now put that in your pipe and smoke it...

I have written this in above post 12 as well. Have you ever thought of a situation where US has pulled out completely from Af-Pak region? How are you ready, militarily & economically, to tackle the aftermath?

You sure have all the keys in this US WoT. Question is - Can you & will you actually use it? And if yes, with what cost?

.
Pakistan should say no to the deal. But I don't think that will happen.
If it say's no then we will get a chance to see RAW at work.

no no. if US pulls out completely from afghanistan, are u ready to tackle to aftermath? how will u carry out ur activities in afghanistan against pakistan??
we are loosing $6bn every yr. increasin US activity in the region is also making pakistanis go fight in afghanistan. and y will they not when their parents or relatives die in drone attacks. so i guess we can tackle the aftermath which will be quite pleasent and solve many of our problems.

.
Clueless.

Has not occured to him what will happen to Pakistan if the US withdraws - who then will Pakistan stand up to the real Muslims?

Apparently money will now buy suicide bombers, and not very much money at that - I guess there people around with deeper pockets than Pakistanis.

But why would Pakistan need to stand up to real Muslims? Being the followers they are, they too will want to be real Muslims - and that's what the enemies of Pakistan really want to see, because they know what will follow from there.

" Pakistan has to provide guarantees that it will not support terror against India before Washington doles out billions in fresh civil and military assistance to Islamabad, the US Congress has proposed. "

well well , you want to say that they ( USA ) forgot 911/afghanistan/etc etc and there only concern is " terror against india "

The US is not going to quit Afghanistan anytime soon, with a strategic launch pad in Central Asia with far eastern reach, Afghanistan is crucial to the American grand plan.

Not to metion the fact that Afghanistan has seen the largest troop committment from the US since Vietnam... I do not think the US will quit Afghanistan entirely, they will still retain some remote military capacity in the region.

Besides the job is still half done, Mr. OBL and his brand of puppies are still at large, what is needed is a through re-think on both sides. Like i said before this is a love hate relationship and whilst Pakistan has needed the US more in the Past, at this particular juncture it is in US strategic interst to keep Pakistan sweet.

Militarily, the eastern front is the prime concern for the average Pakistan, the masses do ignore the threat posed from the west at to some east from the north from the Uyghurs of Xinjiang which could open up another front for us and may be exploited to weaken our relationship with China.

So no we cannot do this alone, we are committed. Well i cannot speak for the government but i know the people are. We need partners, my friend this is a regional issue and instead of lobbying for ristrictions the Indians should work hand in hand with the Pak gov to break this chain.

But hey, these are just my two cents and they dont really carry any weight.

Guys, the Kashmir Freedom Fighters Insurgency thing will continue.Americans can at best close our WOT funding..nothing else so don't worry......

They didnt forget anything. But on the contrary, they have acknowledged that Pakistan had been eyewashing US by using all the aid against India instead of fighting terror.

No attempt was being made to tackle terror instead terrorists were still being supported as a part of Pakistan's state policy against India. ISI continues to support the terrorists, and Americans have grown tired of this BS.

Its good for you, atleast you would see action on the ground by your Army/ISI which would prevent Pakistan from collapsing under its own weight.

.
Well GOP has always admitted they supported these guys. The only difference is then they were freedom fighters and now they are terrorists. A change in nomenclature, thats all.
The only freedom fighters we have supported are the ones in Kashmir. Kashmir is disputed territory and hence its an ongoing military operation.

.
will this change anything????? no. these clauses are only there to satisfy others.
You're signing on a piece of paper that yes I committed terrorism and now I would stop.

If Pakistan did commit terrorism then where? On who's mandate? They should be tried in Pakistani courts as the people of Pakistan have never given their go ahead to terrorism. If Zardari signs this, I think he should go to jail since he is signing a confession that he is a terrorist.

This is another bitter fruit of Pakistan's response to the bombing of the Indian embassy and Kabul and the Mumbai Massacre. Had Pakistan owned up to moral responsibility for these events and issued apologies - regardless of whether or not Pakistan was actually responsible for them - I doubt the U.S. would be putting the strings on today.

I have one message for Pakistani leaders. If you did commit terrorism, then go to jail for it. Or else tell the truth and reject these stupid bread crumbs of aid.

.
Has the GoP come out with an official statement yet? Why is this news being played down by the Pakistani media? The news should be ringing alarm bells within GoP?

I noticed that Pranab Mukherji was quick to react on the development. The same day in fact.

Agreed. If They indeed supported Mumbai attacks then yes (which by the way has no proof that ISI or the Army supported) but regarding Kabul Embassay Attack and Kashmir Problem that cannot be considered terrorism..it's more like proxy war.
