washington - The US Science Envoy Bernard Amadei will visit Pakistan from March 24 to 29 to promote science and technology in the country. On his first trip as an envoy, Amadei will visit Islamabad and Lahore where he will meet senior government officials and representatives of academic, engineering and NGO circles to promote cooperation and achieve mutual goals in science and technology.
Amadei will also meet participants in the US sponsored Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative and the local chapter of Engineers without Borders to encourage students and practitioners to focus on engineering for sustainable development.
The US Science Envoy Program was announced by US President Barack Obama in Cairo on June 4, 2009.
Since the program's inception, six of America's finest scientists have travelled to 19 countries on behalf of the US government to promote international partnerships through scientific collaboration.
Bernard Amadei holds Mortenson Endowed Chair in Global Engineering and is a professor of civil engineering at the University of Colorado.
He is the founding president of Engineers without Borders and is an elected member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
