US providing precision strike technology to Pakistan

.
Ask the ground commanders and the Air Tasking officers what precision strike capability supplied by US has done for our boys!!!

At times in our eagerness to hate US we forget and move away from reality. Sniper and Goodrich pods have been a game changer in our fight against the Talban in FATA.

It has enabled us to launch precision strikes and I mean it (at times informers were asked to sit in the aircraft and identify individuals through real time imaging consoles!) day and night. This capability did not exist before. Taliban were put under relentless round the clock hammering from the air. Captured Taliban complained of not being able to resupply their posts in the night as they used to do so before. This capability alone to launch round the clock operations sapped the morale of our enemy and they withdrew from some areas and were forced to reduce the footprint of their area of operations drastically.

Both F-16 and Cobras with night flying capability were used for these type of operations. Another platform with high loiter time used to recon the area for hours and eventually designate the target. The video feed was then shared real-time with the F-16's and the Cobras (The choice was made to use either the cobras or the F-16 based upon the type of target being attacked) were vectored in on to the target and were talked into actual strike by on-board controllers on the recon aircraft.

At times informers were asked to sit in the Recon aircraft and identify individuals or their vehicles!!! at times strikes were called off when in the last minute, informers failed to recognize the target in the vehicle or a compound.

I have deliberately left out some info. that would have been an interesting read and and eye opener but can not do so for reasons of security.

This capability never existed to launch precision strikes day n night and in all kinds of flyable weather. It has saved the lives of our boys on the ground, reduced collateral damage, demoralized the enemy and enabled us to take out important targets and their command, assembly and control centers. Destroyed their ability to resupply etc.

Now, gentlemen and an occasional lady -- let us call a spade,a spade!!!!! We need to become mature and in some cases sane! Acknowledge what others have done for us (and of course for themselves too in the process) while perusing our favorite past time!!!!!!

My 2c worth.
@Aamir Hussain.
Always great hearing from you. And a really good post. The fact remains that irrespective of outside help or stirrings, the TTP is a problem for present day Pakistan. It is not about what happened in the past but what we are facing now. We can assign the blame later but the menace is clear and present and needs to be dealt with. It is abundantly clear that no one from outside is going to come in and sort our mess out so we need to do it. It is already also clear that the mess may have multiple factors but it is impacting the security, economics and stability of Pakistan. We do need to use the guilt factor in getting the maximum out of the US as they too have their national interests at heart but at the same time need to understand that we need to show progress as well before others will take an interest. The current action is in realization of this fact and understandably the US is taking notice as well. It also needs to have mutual appreciation of each others role in the equation and the recent visits and the US appreciation is a testament to that. Our problem stems from our weak economy . If we had a stronger economy, a lot more could have come out of these visits but after a little while people get fed up of handing out dole. So we need to stand on out own feet and act like a proud and responsible nation and then see how we get noticed by all and sundry.

Thank you Araz - your post got me going on this thread ;)

I only wish that people on this Forum see what we've turned ourselves into and how others see us, today. This country was The Destination to go to in mid fifties and early sixties.

There was so much hope and prosperity was around the corner. We muddled up all of this and conveniently blamed others for our F-ups and do so till today.

We generally call folks who see shadows behind every corner, believe in conspiracies as psychopaths! We unfortunately as a nation have turned into a classic clinical case of a psychopath.

I can go on an on but I still strongly believe that this country has immense potential only if we start behaving maturely as a nation and acting like one.

Those DB-110 recon pods, those GBUs and more importantly those AIM-120 C5s (which are not required for anti-terror operation) don't be ungrateful to the Uncle.
this is nothing for what Pakistan has sacrificed for them !

Pakistani fan boys should get off their phantom high horses. All the front line military tech that Pakistan posses is thanks to US of A, it is this tech and weaponry which keeps our enemies at bay. You take out the US supplied arsenal and IAF will eat PAF like a ripe strawberry.
Ops many of this forum is not going to like what you wrote.

That is because your leadership__our leadership collapsed like a house of cards and laid themselves down to be slaughtered. You had to go along with the US but did you have to sit back and take it as well. Why did they not negotiate harder on the surface agreeing but negotiating hard behind the scene. Musharraf is the biggest culprit in this matter. We could have pleaded hard and not compromised on matters relating to our security. We have always been very poor at negotiating.

Gravity bombs, Sniper pods for F16s, Scan Eagle UAV and by 2018 we will be getting 1000 hellfire missiles for AH1Z. This is hi-tech.

Nothing provided from 2006 on wards in terms of fighter jets, warships, submarines, nuclear tech, or any other modern technology instead due old f16s and they will retired by 2025....

My countrymen are extremely naïve. We support countries simply because they are Muslim, even though many prefer India over us. I remember Col Nasser of Egypt commenting to Indian ambassador in 1965 that he was awaiting good news of ‘Fall of Lahore’ but it never came. In Feb 1973 arms meant for Baluch insurgents were found in Iraqi diplomatic pouches but Pakistani public still supported Saddam Hussein!

It is also clear that most of my countrymen don’t understand “Realpolitik”. US neither hates nor loves Pakistan or any other country for that matter; even Cuba is now coming out of US hate list. Foreign policy of the US, China or any other country would support another country only if it is in the greater interest of the country providing aid or support.

The equipment in question is surplus to the US requirement. Had it been in the US mainland, it would normally end up in a storage dump. Lethal elements would be removed and the rest auctioned off or sold/ given to other countries as aid.

Since this hardware happened to be in Afghanistan; it is not cost effective to transport it back to the US. Hence it is being donated to the Pakistan, Afghanistan & Jordan to earn equivalent of ‘Brownie points’. Additionally, Zarbe-e-Azb is attacking Taliban strongholds in North Waziristan therefore indirectly helping ISAF.

China is investing in Pakistan and selling arms to us but expects that we would support China if the need so arises. US & all other countries do the same. When US sells us arms, in addition to gaining political influence; US is also indirectly helping her arms industry. Old PL-48 programme was also instituted primarily to support US farmers.

India is now the 7th largest economy in the world. US, France, UK as well as China want a share of the Indian market. Why do you think Iran has good relations with India? Before the sanctions, India was buying 400,000 bbl. per day of Iranian crude. She is still buying 200,000bbl per day under special dispensation.

We have to remember that there are no “Free lunches” in this world. There would alwys be a 'Quid pro quo'
If Pakistanis expect otherwise, they are being foolish.

I do not think the Pakistani elite is naive. They are pretending to be naive
