Karachi: On December 6, Consul General Grace Shelton officially handed over six armored personnel vehicles (APVs) worth 150 million rupee ($1.5 million USD) to the Balochistan police officials at an event in Karachi. The vehicles were built by the American company Lenco and were designed specifically for the rough terrain of Balochistan and easy maintenance locally.

In addition to the APVs, the United States recently donated 4,000 bullet resistant vests, mine and explosives detectors, bomb suits, and bomb blankets. The total donation was in excess of $7 million USD.

Speaking at the event the Consul General said, “The recent targeted killings of Balochistan police officers shows just how dangerous policing can be in Balochistan and how we cannot rest in determining ways to keep law enforcement officers safe. The United States Government hopes these vehicles and the other protective equipment can help protect these brave officers while they continue to fight crime and terrorism.”

The United States Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs works in more than 90 countries to help countries combat crime and corruption, counter drug-related offences, improve police institutions, and promote laws and court systems that are fair and accountable.

You are 100% correct this is quite a horrible protective vehicle 100% there is absolutely no reason why a foreign ambassador is engaged in such activity in Pakistan. Pakistan have our own defence vehicle facility

Private sector should be given green light to build light and advance protection vehicles which can be used by police, swat and Rangers. Joint venture with UAE, Turkey or Azerbaijan will be a good move.

While nothing wrong in attaining the gift , it is just not normal diplomatic gesture
i.e person from some Embassy , just interacting with Provincial level person for a different government and distributing a Tactical Weapon (defensive in nature in this case)

Never seen a American police officer getting anything from Pakistani Embassy worker

Some what alters the preception of Police and confict of interest as they might have a softer stance towards any illegal activity that embassy workers may be upto and police might look the other way because of their "friendly gestures of past"

Police should be asked to keep an open eye for any American upto no good in Pakistan and not remember any past gifts or favors

Armour is the proper English while Armor is American English. Just like Colour/Color, Grey/Gray, Honour/Honor, Labour/Labor, Defence/Defense, Centre/Center, apologise/apologize, neighbour/neighbor etc etc. So they both are both correct English. As most people use MS Word to write, which by-default uses English(US) so you will see most articles written in American English.

Simple change it correctly. We install local English - South African English.

These days the numbers have become a joke. Why do we even want these small number of vehicles from US. This number can be arranged from HIT.

Hi,

Please---just learn to be thankful and grateful for small favors---. The police force desperately needs these vehicles---.

Is there a MAGIC WAND at HIT that 6 of them will appear just like that to be given to Baluchistan?

.
If I'm not wrong, these vehicles are locally armoured. In a way, Balochistan Police will benefit from the donation, lives will be saved. Sponsored by USAID and so we shouldn't expect MaxxPro or Buffalo.

Pakistan has such capability.

Another thing, The Police transports can go through such upgrades.

LEARN to get your shit together. Its called self reliance. Till these type of small lolypops will keep coming we can never think independently. If there is a need for such vehicles there is a proper channel to raise demand and governments responsibility to provide such vehicles to security forces. We are producing better ones at HIT. Nothing is free in this world.

What legal authority does Balochistan has to accept such equipment from a foreign country?
These things are dome via federal government.
