Earlier this week, a Brazilian diplomat revealed that the US government is providing funds to companies in the country and other regions to buy 5G networking equipment from Huawei rivals.

The US is helping in financing telecom operators in Brazil and other countries. This is to prevent them from buying 5G gear from “untrusted” Chinese companies, which primarily hints at Huawei. According to Ambassador Todd Chapman, appropriate alternatives for 5G technology have been found through Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung.

The funds have been allocated from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which is a government agency that finances private development projects. Furthermore, Chapman stated that Huawei Technologies is untrustable as a partner that will help build 5G across the globe, despite being the world’s largest telecommunications equipment provider.

For those unaware, Huawei has been in Brazil for over 20 years and has partnered with local telecom operators to test 5G networking in the region. It has already built the backbone of the infrastructure regarding the newer and faster bandwidth using Chinese equipment. Notable partners include major carriers like Telefonica Brasil SA, TIM Participacoes SA, America Movil’s Claro and Oi SA.

The move from the US is another clear effort to pressurize the Chinese tech giant. Its recent sanctions have cut off its chip supply from TSMC and it has even urged other governments to remove Huawei’s presence in their respective 5G infrastructure as well. Chapman also said that “We are simply alerting our friends and allies in Brazil that we have those concerns shared by many countries around the world that such technology is not the way to go.”

after Brazil, Indonesia should be considered.

you don't want Huawei access to the fourth largest country by population.

. .
this is wrong
It is, but it will only push the Chinese to look for self sufficiency in chips and diversify it's markets and products.

Hava e tund se na ghabra ai ukaab.
Vo to chalti hai uncha uraane ke liye.

This is desperation on the part of the Americans.

. . .
It's called giving an alternative
That is not an alternative, the alternative is offering a cheaper or better technology.
If the problem is money then Brazil will be receiving offerings bigger than the ones of the Americans are offering, from the Chinese.
This is using American taxpayer money not to loan but to fund other countries networks when you dont even have one yourself.

And the so-called rivals will pay to use patents / parts / components / etc from Huawei. There is no real alternatives, in the sense that they are totally independent from Huawei. They are all like Vietnam-based Viettel, who said they had developed successfully 5G and wanted to export, even to the US.

this is an admission of weakness, not strength. in the 1950's-2000's did US have to pay any other country subsidies to use US products?

no. other countries paid the US a large premium to use US products. they paid the US a premium to use US technology because US products were the most market competitive.

it is actually sad because the US used to be an economic powerhouse and could simply run a few ads and get entire continents to use US products.

The so-called Funds is not free money.

It's actually debt, as usual.

The same with the Japanese.

They label and report it as an aid in the media.

But the truth only applied for using or buying Japanese products and services.

This kind of practice is nothing new.

China is also doing the same.

If is a loan they should called a loan, but they are calling it a fund. In my opinion is bribing with taxpayer money because i dont think they are expecting some ROI with that money.
