ISLAMABAD: The United States Navy’s guided-missile cruiser USS Monterey visited Karachi Port, Pakistan Navy’s media wing said on Thursday.
It said the visit by the carrier deployed to Fifth Fleet was part of the cooperation between the navies of the two countries for “safe and secure maritime environment in the region”.
“The overnight visit programme of ship included call on Commander Pakistan Fleet and table top discussion on professional issues,” the statement said.

The visiting ship later participated in drills with a Pakistan Navy ship described as “Passage Exercise”.
The exercise included various seamanship and warfare drills. “The visit of USS Monterey (CG-61) proved eventful and professionally rewarding for both the navies. It is hoped that this visit shall further strengthen relations between both the navies,” the PN said.
The PN recalled its role for safety and freedom of navigation at high seas. Pakistan Navy has also participated in Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan since 2004 and is presently undertaking Regional Maritime Security Patrols to ensure safe and secure seas for common cause of peace and stability.

Pakistan and US navies participate in joint drills in Arabian Sea

Islamabad: The navies of Pakistan and the United States held a joint drill in the North Arabian Sea, according to Pakistan Navy.

The guided-missile cruiser USS Monterey (CG-61) participated in the drills termed ‘Passage Exercise’. The US Navy ship received a warm and cordial welcome at Karachi port.

The overnight visit of the ship included meeting with Commander of the Pakistan Fleet and discussion on roles and responses during a particular emergency situation.

The naval exercise included various seamanship and warfare drills. “Overall the visit of USS Monterey (CG-61) proved eventful and professionally rewarding for both the navies,” the official statement read. Pakistan Navy officials hoped that the visit will “further strengthen relations between both the navies.”

During the ship’s visit, US Embassy Chargé d’affaires Lesslie Viguerie also met the crew. “The United States and Pakistan militaries enjoy strong and enduring ties,” he said.



Pakistan Navy and US Navy are working together to ensure a safe and secure maritime environment in the region. “Through staff exchanges and joint exercises, we are working together to protect the world’s most important maritime routes, combatting piracy, and terrorism. Together, we can help ensure a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous South Asia,” Viguerie said.

The Monterey’s visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) team helped improve bilateral maritime security capabilities and interoperability between the naval experts. “It’s important that we continue to work together with regional and coalition partners and reinforce our mutual commitment to maritime security and stability,” said Captain Joseph A Baggett, commanding officer of Monterey.

Pathetic. Not so long ago both were accusing each other of all sorts. I have never understood this perverted aspect of a broken relationship. On the one hand you have the Americans who don't take a break to vilify and hate Pakistan all year long. From the US media to iron man at Tora Bora. Every patriotic American has participated in hating Pakistan. There is not a single American who has been brainwashed to point Pakistan as the evildoer. Anti-US sentiment is rampant in Pakistan and logically so. In short, we could eat each other until nothing is left.

Out of the blue you have an American cruiser visiting the Karachi port. Only in Pakistan can such illogical sequence of events take place. What are the intentions? What is the purpose of such confused signalling? The Americans aren't getting military bases in Pakistan. Sleepy Joe hasn't even made a phone call to PM Imran Khan. Yet, here we have a fully armed cruiser paying a visit and pretending all is dandy. Flags are out and everyone is dancing. Surely things are overlapping on both sides. We are again witnessing an unnatural upsurge in certain quarters when others aren't done accusing each other. Detrimental is the only word coming to mind. False promises and an overdose of false optimism.

World is a funny place, US now looking at Vietnam as an ally after all they did to that poor county. Iraq has F-16s! Such is diplomacy. US - Pak relationship seems to be heading to some sort of neutrality status, which, if you ask me, is a victory for Pakistan's balancing act. We are the closest ally of America's largest military and economic competitor, China. The very fact US does not consider us a outright military enemy is in fact a big positive.

US - Pak relationship seems to be heading to some sort of neutrality status, which, if you ask me, is a victory for Pakistan's balancing act. We are the closest ally of America's largest military and economic competitor, China. The very fact US does not consider us a outright military enemy is in fact a big positive.

Pakistan should make effort to keep this relationship neutral and increasingly non-military. Pakistan needs to take itself out of that equation if not altogether but in that direction.

The US Navy regularly called Port in Hong Kong since the Spanish American War only ending this practice after China barred their ships from entering post 2019 protests.

Last major Ship to call port was USS Ronald Reagan.

Given the corrosive nature of the relationship, this port call makes little sense. Pak Gov should get more clarity on the nature of the relationship, and only then decide if such calls make sense. Pakistan needs to stop being a pushover, it is a nation of heft and strength. Clean out the snakes within it, and watch it thrive.

They absolutely are not, The OHP is a very dated platform and not much more than a target at this point anywhere outside of littoral waters.

OHP are free, Pakistan pays for the refurbishment and upgrades. US only transferred one to PN so far.
