US Lost $443 billion in Afghanistan

With the bulk of U.S. troops set to withdraw from Afghanistan by 2014, here is a look at the price, that US have paid over the past 12 years of war.

$443 billion

The war in Afghanistan has cost the United States $443 billion from 2001 through 2011, according to the Congressional Research Office.

According to a Pew Trusts report, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have contributed more to growth in U.S. debt than any other policy.

1,834 Americans Killed

In the eleven years that American troops have been fighting in Afghanistan 1,834 have been killed. The most deadly year to date was 2010, when 492 Americans died.

During the first four months of 2012, 87 members of the U.S. military have lost their lives in Afghanistan. A total of 367 Americans have died in the war-torn country in 2012.

15,786 Americans Wounded

Nearly 16,000 U.S. troops have been wounded in action since the Afghanistan war began in 2001.

Through the end of March 2012, 4,341 members of the American military have been wounded.

88,000 Troops

There are currently 88,000 U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan. That's down from the peak troop level of about 100,000 who were stationed there in March of 2011. Troop strength is expected to shrink to 68,000 by the end of September 2013 and by the end of 2014 most U.S. troops are expect to be out of the country.

11,864 Civilians Killed

According to the United Nations, nearly 12,000 Afghan citizens have been killed between 2007 -- when the UN began reporting such statistics -- and 2011.

Money is never lost... it just change hands .. if this money was lost in Afghanistan, some how we shall see it in some form, but this money was paid to indians for running terror apparatus in Pakistan, hence you will see its reflection only in india.

Actual cost would be way more...

U.S will have to pay interest on all this money they borrowed from different sources..

In short, America just fcuked up the whole region....

After 1945, America invaded tens of countries and killed millions upon millions of innocent people...but hey, Nazis would've done the same... No difference here...

. .
all for fighting a rag tag guerrilla force of 30,000 talibs and to kill OBL......wow amazing.....

.
Nonsense! Out of the $443 billion spent on Afghanistan, more than $300 billion was ploughed back into the US by US companies. Remember, the majority of contracts were given to American companies like Halliburton etc.

At-least their defense Industry is running

US is a war machine and needs/creates wars to keep their defense industry running.

US has mastered the technique of exploitation and opportunism which any Imperialist country does.

Rest aside $$$...did they actually achieve their aim? Talibunnies are still there and would come back at the moment US pack it's bag.If they had helped AF after Soviets departure they would have avoided $$$ and money of theirs plus thousands of American lives.

$443 billion spend over a period of 12 years, makes less than $40 billion a year, not much a big deal for a $14 trillion economy.

Much of the debt is being incurred by corporate entities, because of the mindless gambling they did in the market for all these years, and the crappy asset they're holding over exaggerated price, which is worth not more than pennies in fire sale.

Their national asset is worth about $100 trillion for fvcks sake.

Hords of Indians worked along Pakistan border and Pakistan supplied subsidized petrol.

And Indian sub contractors paid a majority of that to Pakistani transport agencies for shipment of petroleum to Afghanistan.

The US ain't going nowhere! At least two army divisions will remain there along with logistics support personnel and their training teams for the next several decades. Afghanistan is too important a country for the US due to its immense natural wealth and energy corridors. They will never abandon it for the Talibunnies to run riot there.

Then there are conflicts of interests to grab a piece of the Afghan pie. Iran, India, Russia, China, the US, Pakistan and the Central Asian Republics, all have their eyes firmly fixed on Afghanistan's natural resources and its energy corridor. It won't be a cake walk as the Pakistanis desire and have planned for. Their plan for 'Strategic Depth' will come a cropper. It just won't work! And to think that Pakistan has been trying to install a pliable Taliban government there since the last decade just for this purpose has resulted instead in the birth of the TTP and their attacks we're witnessing today in Pakistan where nearly 50,000 have already been killed. All this for the mirage of 'strategic depth'! :cheesy:
