US knocks on a closed door seeking to extend Iran arms embargo - Russia’s UN envoy

Unusual for China.

Seems like we are seeing a major in shift in China's position on the international stage. The expected transformation from strategic ambivalence to decisiveness. It was always bound to happen, but the Coronacrisis and the subsequent open eruption of competition/enmity between Washington and Beijing (which we were all waiting for) has finally made the latter more resolute. Considering the fact that Pompeo pressured Israel a couple of days ago to rethink Chinese investment, as well as increased tensions between the two superpowers in the South China Sea, there is no more reason for China to pretend neutrality.

Good news for Iran. We have now entered the period in which all countries are going to choose a side.

Not yet.... China will finally shift its gear towards Iran if US-China relationship worsens and China gets sanctioned too.

Right now, they have alot to lose if they prefer trade with Iran. Things might change quickly though.

Dont fall for the political theater of Russia and China.

Look at their actions not words. These guys have zero spine. They will complain, but when push comes to shove they bow to the Empire.

I will never forget that during nuclear negotiations, a member of Iran’s nuclear team revealed the brutal nature of China. Basically it was that Iran knew the tactics and backstab capability of the West and Russia, but that China was on a completely different level it terms of betrayal.

So this thinking that China is the savior in this arms scenario, couldn’t be further from the truth.
people in military sector also are not that eager to trade with china. lol you can imagine how unreliable china is that we are relying on Russia.

Good analysis.....but I will wait for a confirmation. I think the Chinese are more trustworthy than the Russians...The Russians have sold us out a few times, so as long as Putin is in power, I would deal with them at arm's length. I do think militarily speaking we should buy a mixture of equipment from both.....it would be foolish to rely on only one of them. At the same time I think for the time being, we should forget the ToT of fighters and buy a few squadrons of the Su-30's. We don't need tanks and ships, we only need deadlier and more capable drones, cruise missiles and better, more integrated Air defenses. This alone will give any adversary pause.....
Longer term we have to build up Syria's air defenses and help Hezbollah build more advanced missiles in Lebanon...so no amount of Israeli intervention can change the game.
If I was an Israeli or American analyst I'd sit back and applaud at Iran's chess game in the past decade and a half....they have done some remarkable things, They (as another post mentioned earlier) have all of our adversaries change from the offensive to a defensive position in a short time. Bravo!

We owe all of this to Trump. His presidency will be know as the deflection point of world affairs. And every country, including China, is realizing that it is only a matter of time or who is in Whitehouse, before they will end up in a similar situation to where Iran is.

Did you come out from underneath a rock?

What has China done besides buy cheap Iran oil that it already needs? All one needs to do is look at oil/gas sector to see how many investment/partnership deals China has not honored.

Chinese business’ have flooded the Iranian market with cheap and at times hazardous goods leading to domestic companies going out of business.

Relying on China is a big mistake. They have no honor nor beliefs. They are a major paper tiger as the last major conflict they were involved in was the Korean War.

China is not an ally nor a reliable supplier. Russia has made its fair share of mistakes, but one just needs to look at how much of Iranian military uses Russian tech vs China tech to see the answer. Iran will still seek Russian military tech.

You can disagree without that first line... but I'll give you a pass. China is the country that we need to align ourselves with, because they're on the rise while Russia is struggling economically and geo-politically. China will have superior armed forces and yes, superior technology in a few short years...all the signs are there to make an intelligent assessment about that. Russia is becoming less and less of a factor, while China is buying up influence all over the M.E.

agree... a new cold war is starting.

I tried explaining this in another thread about how Iran can use this to its advantage. being the regional superpower of one the most strategic regions on earth. China and US should and will be competing for Irans courtship..

I was attacked for being naïve and trump this trump that..... TRump Is a clown whos got 5 years left max. Iran plans decades in advance. The nuclear deal was supposed to be the beginning of détente between the US and Iran. Since you don't go from death to America/axis of evil to best friends in a single step....

I think Iran will be a huge winner in all of this. especially since Iran is an independent energy producer. possibly one of only 4 in the world (along with Russia, the US and Venezuela)

Like the supreme leader stated, the only way the US can regain Iran's trust is publicly apologizing for all its crimes against the Iranian people from 1945 up to the present. There must be compensation for all the damages imposed by the US on Iran as well and the TOTAL lifting of ALL sanctions.

Considering that the Americans are way too arrogant to do such things this conflict may be going on for another several decades until the Americans realize Iran is just not going to give up, no matter the costs. And until they realize that Iran is not that country anymore where they can install puppet leaders with the stroke of a pen.

Future Iranian generations will remember the 1979 revolution as a turning point in the Iranian history. Iran will never be a puppet of the West again.

Madeleine Albright publicly apologized for the Mossadegh coup. it isn't out of question.. at this point becoming allies with IRan is almost a no brainer for the US.( or at least cease hostilities) the only thing standing infront of this is the Zionist lobby.\

parasites who are hurting both American and Iranian interests to advance Zionist/israeli interests.

though there are some positive signs that even their stranglehold is starting to loosen. as nobody trusts American media(propaganda machines) anymore.
