US Gives Pakistan Contract to Build 1000 Humvees

Highly unlikely scenario. First, the US would have to do this under license with HIT giving out designs and manufacturing secrets etc (which the US would not do under any circumstances at this stage knowing the Chinese reverse engineering capabilities). Second, such a deal does not happen overnight and a lot of preliminary work is required vis-a-vis US Government permissions/ legislation, export approvals etc. Third, such an achievement, if so true, is not kept under wraps and knowing HIT and Gen Ghumman's (who retires come this November) style of work, the MoU or agreement would be signed publicly and with all the media hype. However and most of all HIT would only venture into this project if and only if Pakistan Army also adopts the HUMMVEE for its own use and at this stage GHQ has no requirement as such. So setting up such an elaborate factory only for 2000 odd units just does not make commercial or strategic sense.

I agree. The tooling and factory has to Humvee specific and for just 2000 I am not sure it will be cost effective to set up a new plant.

Regards

And why would the US trust a factory that got bombed 2 months ago?

expleane please why not they trust.if sucide hit out side main door of factory then you thing prodution will stop or factory is not working? even we can't say it factory its a small city of difrent plants anf factoryes.:pakistan:

That was POF manufacturing ammunition etc that was suicide bombed at the gate! The bomber never entered the actual production zone.

This is HIT we are talking about that makes tanks and APC's etc.

.
True, but Americans are always cautious. The bomber managed to get past 2 levels of security, (the military cantonment area of the city and than get close to the factory). Although I would love to believe that Pakistan actually got the order, since it would help Pakistan gain more technical knowledge. It is not politically nor economically possible (as pointed out by epool earlier).

i think the order is for APC-Talha. an initial order of 100 was delivered to Iraq on behalf of the US. the Talha performed admirably in hot iraqi conditions. so it is understandable for a follow-up order.

the cost of a Talha APC is ~US 150,000 per unit, so this is a fairly big export order for HIT. (US 150 mill).

Again highly unlikely scenario. First, orders such as these are not kept under wraps. If true, DEPO or HIT or Government would have announced with fanfare this sale from the get go. Secondly, as a law the Americans will not adopt non-US equipment for their Army in any part of the world. US Forces have no real-time experience with APC Talha which, although a very nice platform, remains under marketed in the world. So far HIT has not bagged any real customers for its innovative brand of vehicles which are proudly displayed at the shiny new building at HIT campus.

However, HIT IS developing an exciting new vehicle which it plans to show at the IDEAS 2008. This vehicle could be a true hot selling item considering its potential and capability for use in our border areas. Lets leave further description a surprise until such time this vehicle is inaugurated officially.

first - yes and no - u r more than half correct as this news has not been reported on any leading defence web-sites but pakistan has kept many deals big or small under wraps.

secondly - the apc's are for the iraqi national army and not the US.

I'd say Pakistan should use the Humvee automotive components and use them with the Turkish Cobra vehicle instead which uses the latter.

its besness why not we build this and take $

next month taliban want also 2000 of them:cheesy:

Why is this not dangerious. We build stuff for others but what if that armor is turned against us. What then. Well will be done in due to $ its bad enough our people are going through such a hard time.

.
this may help HIT to learn about their technology....hmmmmm Good sign.

now dont be so ignorant like the rest. then in according to your logic US has every right to not give pakistan anything let alone F-16s MLU which are desperately needed! and mind you for that money you cant even get a JF-17 which is no where near a MLU M3!

This seems to me a bit low price.
I guess a Bentley would be more expensive.

Who so ever in this world have used Pakistani defense products had admired them and US is no exception but depicting TALHA with HUMV is catastrophe reporting.

True and this also gives Pakistan the right to put sanctions on US and send them salt/chili/pepper, instead of TALHA and keep the money.

man the point of my post was to show that we have to get out of this mentality of like if we give them this they will attack us with it or misuse it against us. that goes for both US and Pakistan. and it really pi$$es me off when i hear PAK f-16 news that "pakistan is preparing a war aganist india and they may use it aganist india". what BS.
