LAHORE: The former Vice Chief of Air Staff and founder of Pakistani aircraft JF-17 Thunder, Shahid Lateef, while addressing a seminar on “Pakistan’s problems and their solutions”, at Tech Club divulged that vital information about Pakistan’s nuclear assets had been provided to US under the cover of security trainings.

He stated that the incidences like Abbottabad operation, attack on GHQ and Mehran base were planned just to take over Pakistan’s nuclear assets. “America coined JF-17 Thunder aircraft project a ‘paper project’ but we successfully completed it within a record time of two and half years with a 15-member team as compared to Indian’s Light Combat Aircraft project that was not completed in 15 years with the help of 80 institutions,” he added.

Lateef said that the judiciary should ensure implementation of NRO verdict through army, otherwise people will have to come to the streets in the name of revolution. He said that the present democratic government had failed to deliver in the last four years and asked public to stop waiting for miracles and make sincere efforts to safeguard Pakistan. He also mentioned that the present elections’ structure is corrupt and elections held under the present system will result again in a corrupt and failed government.

“Pakistan should strengthen relations with China instead of depending on US, who had never been a reliable companion, and should portray its image as a peaceful,” he stressed. According to him Pakistan has already wasted its precious hard-earned foreign reserves for the purchase of expensive nuts and bolts of military equipments bought under compulsion from US and western powers on their terms and conditions. Pakistan now needs to adopt the strategy of reducing land forces and increase the air power capability as being practiced by the other countries of the world, he opined.

Tech Club President Zubair Sheikh, in his welcome note mentioned that the American ambassador had said that Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder aircraft project was more dangerous than atom bomb and they made utmost efforts to roll back this project. In the end Tech Society President, Dr Muhammad Sadiq, thanked the guest speakers, Engineers, Doctors and Professors who participated in the seminar

This makes no sense. The JF-17 is a fine aircraft, but it's no F-22 or PAK-FA.

I know it is extraordinarily popular to think that the USA must be desperately seeking to somehow snatch Pakistani nukes, but the reality is that it is not some giant concern. It is not a big topic of conversation, not something causing sleepless nights.

Look at it this way - if it was some giant problem, why didn't the USA act back when the Pakistan A-bomb project was in its infancy?

The Soviet Union was the prime target of the US back then and that's why the US could not focus on preventing Pakistan from acquiring the nukes, but that does not mean they did not try.

Shahid Lateef is talking out of his hat! How are these connected to taking over Pakistan’s nuclear assets? Does he mean the attacks on the GHQ and Mehran base were planned by the Pentagon as a rehearsal for taking out Pakistan's nukes? Dumb!

Now, if an officer in the exalted rank of a Vice Chief utters this nonsense, there is nothing else I can say, except that the standard of his analytical skills sucks!
