US envoy hints at replacing drones with joint operation

ISLAMABAD - The US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson Tuesday hinted at replacing unilateral counter terror measures, which primarily comprise drone attacks, with some joint operation with Pakistan.
Talking to Online news agency here at a ceremony held to mark ‘the National Day of Poland’, he also disclosed that both Pakistan and US were already working on resuming strategic dialogue process, which is likely to restart from December.Olson dropped a hint that the US could shelve its unilateral measures in Pakistani areas if it reaches at an understanding with the country for some sort of joint operations against the terrorists. “You know better, my constraints to talk on this issue,” he remarked.“But we appreciate Pak-US cooperation in war the terror,” he said while responding to a question about good will gestures shown by the Pakistani authorities to ensure peace and stability in the region with particular reference to Afghanistan.Pakistan invited Afghan Aman Council head to visit Pakistan as well as moved forward to holding consultation with Qatar-based stakeholders. “We are happy with Afghan peace council delegation visit and gestures expressed by both sides,” Olson observed. To another question, the envoy said that both Pakistan and United States had been already working for resumption of strategic dialogue which would resume next month.Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bokhari was the chief guest at the ceremony while Federal Minster Nazar Gondal, British High Commissioner to Pakistan and other dignitaries also attended the celebration.
