22 militants killed in US drone strikes in Pak tribal belt

ISLAMABAD: Stepping up missile strikes against terrorists in Pakistan's restive tribal belt, US drones targeted an insurgent training camp and a vehicle in North Waziristan on Wednesday, killing at least 22 militants and injuring several others.

In the first attack, the drones fired four missiles at a compound being used as a militant training camp in Shawal area of North Waziristan tribal agency, officials were quoted as saying by TV news channels.

Eighteen militants were killed and the compound was destroyed in the attack.

Local residents said more persons could be buried in the rubble of the compound.

A drone targeted a car in the second attack, killing four militants.

Both attacks, in which several militants were also injured, occurred within minutes of each other.

The US has carried out five drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal belt this week, indicating that Washington has no plans to roll back the campaign with unmanned spy planes despite protests from Islamabad.

On Monday, at least 18 suspected militants were killed in three drone strikes in South Waziristan.

Al-Qaida terrorist Ilyas Kashmiri was reported killed in a drone attack last week but US officials have said they have no confirmation of his death.

The Abottabad raid kinda made the Americans even more determined to actually start taking the border regions even more seriously. I wonder what does Robert Panetta have in mind regarding the future situation of the region.

america is giving a damn to pakistani warning's on drone's , but they are doing a great job, most of the people killed are terrorist's.

hmmm.......and you know this how ? like you've ever been there to actually check the bodycount and identify which ones are terrorist. Also try having a little sensitivity most of us will not take kindly when you say "great job" when innocent people of our country are killed.

Well its the Pakistani officials that are claiming as it says in the article. They claim they are terrorists, then they are terrorists.

I agree with ur point... but whose responsibility is this to save the citizen of their own country ??
The main reason of drones attack is the distrust between US and Pakistan.. Onus is on pakistan to take the call.. either to side with US and start intelligence sharing and joint venture to take out the terrorists so that innocent people will be save or the matter in their own hand and take the action against terrorists and call US to stop drone attacks inside its territory . Pakistan can't remain seated and watch the killing of innocent people.

pakistani officials are dumb, corrupt and rotten as f uck theres loads of civillians many women and children also killed in these attacks but these drones are allowed to happen because they get paid for it.Pakistani public is foaming at the mouth and unlike the government is not afraid of anyone if the masses had their way next ones to be lynched after you guys in afghanistan would be the treacherous pakistani government themselves.Infact the tribes in FATA have offered to attack NATO forces in afghanistan in retaliation to avenge pakistan for these strikes but pakistani government told them not to.

it is unfortunate even if a single person out of them was a innocent civilian, but look i don't think america is doing it purposfully, they are fighting a war , and innocent people do get killed in a war.

Oh come on, the drone issue is difficult enough without adding chemical weapon conspiracies.

If the goal is to kill people with chemical weapons, it will be very obvious. Organophosphate nerve agents drop people in their tracks, there would be dozens or hundreds of bodies. What would the point be in only sickening people a little bit? Chem-warfare lite? Just make them feel a bit crappy?

US Predators hit training camp, vehicle in North and South Waziristan

By Bill Roggio, June 8, 2011

The US launched a pair of attacks in Pakistan's Taliban-controlled tribal agencies of North and South Waziristan today, killing 22 Taliban fighters and "foreigners."

In the first strike, unmanned Predators or the more deadly Reapers launched at least five missiles at a "fortress-like militant compound" that is used as a training camp. The camp is located in the village of Zoynarai in the Shawal area of North Waziristan, which borders South Waziristan.

"Local residents described the camp as a major training centre on the top of a hill surrounded by trees and ice cold natural springs," Dawn reported.

More than 20 people, including "foreign and militants from Pakistan's central Punjab province" were killed during the strike in Shawal. The term "foreigners" is used to describe members of al Qaeda and other terror groups from outside Pakistan that are allied with al Qaeda. Punjabi "militants" belong to terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami.

After the strike on the compound, the Predators or Reapers fired a pair of missiles at a vehicle in a village near the first strike, but across the border in South Waziristan. Four "militants" were killed in the attack, according to Reuters.

No senior Taliban, al Qaeda, or allied terror group leader has been reported killed at this time.

The Shawal area of North Waziristan is administered by Hafiz Gul Bahadar, the Taliban commander for North Waziristan. Bahadar provides shelter to top al Qaeda leaders as well as terrorists from numerous Pakistani and Central Asian terror groups.

Today's strikes take place just two days after the US launched three strikes in South Waziristan that killed 18 Taliban and Punjabi fighters. Four days ago, the US launched another strike in South Waziristan that also targeted Punjabi fighters. Ilyas Kashmiri, a top al Qaeda leader and the commander of the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami and Brigade 313, is reported to have been killed in the strike, although the reports have not been confirmed. A purported statement released by HUJI announcing Kashmiri's death contains errors, while a photograph supposedly showing Kashmiri after his death was that of a Lashkar-e-Taiba fighter killed during the November 2008 assault on Mumbai, India.

It is just as derogatory as is Pak"i". You should expunge it from your common speech if you want to be seen as a fair-minded person.

I would agree with Pakdefender on this one (that is is not essentially used in negative reference)

gora refers to a fair coloured person and widely used in India and Pakistan and even forms the basis of our cosmetic sales pitch like fair and lovely where the advert claims to make the girls gori (the feminine of Gora) by using those creams and lotions.

The derogatory or prejudice word used for western invaders has been Furengi (closely pronounced like the Star Trek Ferangi race) but this word has been coined centuries ago before David Alexder came up with the idea of first contact and star Trek universe.

There is a possibility that the gora word is used in error instead of ferangi which can just be due to lack of vocabulary or convenience. But just because some protesters are using it to vent their anger against the American occupation of Afghanistan & drone strikes then it shouldn’t mean that over a billion people of Indian subcontinent should discard its use from our daily lives.

During Biritsh raj, the British settlers, dignitaries, elites and officials were commonly addressed and referred as Gora with the suffix Sahib (meaning master/ mentor). There was no malicious intent in this because adding Sahib pretty much negates any malicious intent.

Our countless Indian and Pakistani love songs refer to white cheeks and writs when describing the lover and as it happens none of them is a westerner.

..check this song out where the girl is asking her man to buy her green bangles on her GORI (white) writs… you wont miss this word.

take care buddy
