US ambassador 'killed in Libya'

Frankly, I feel so bad due to the way Libyans acted. NATO military intervention rescued Benghazi from an inevitable mass massacre by Qaddafi forces, and I am as an Arab grateful for Americans substantial help in Lydia. However, those don't represent all Libyans, unfortunately, every Muslim country have a bunch of them, they are violent and barbaric.
:usflag:

but dont you think being violent and barbaric ,even 10 people can win over a hundred .......as ling 10 % of the population is like that....the country willl be their......

such people have more convictions to inflict and be inflicted by pain....

As I said, they have a strong ideology, they believe of what they do, and they don't bother spilling blood in perusing their purposes. As for us (Muslims), we believe they are shallow and misguided people. I know some of them here, and they are uncultured and uneducated people, they don't even understand Islam. I know a barber who doesn't want his daughters to attend school, so they don't see boys in the street! I tried to argue him about it, but they have no logic at all. They understand Islam according to their shallow and backward thinking.

4 men died actually. They have every right to act, I bet US civilians are not storming embassies at the moment. Why did they behave in this way? They have no sense of proportion.
Arguably WW1 was started due to the death of 1 man.

another arab spring in libya on its way, courtesy of allied forces??

Why is it that Gulf Arabs remain civil, and dont behave like this?

Why is it that Gulf Arabs remain civil, and dont behave like this?

Because, their educational system teach Islamic teachings extensively and doesn't let a gap for others to misinterpret like what was happening in Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt where only basic Islamic teachings were taught, while the rest was left for individuals to teach in Mosques, everyone according to his understanding. However, gulf Arabs do believe in Jihad which is basically defending brothers everywhere if were wronged. Others like Bin Laden were changed in other countries, not in KSA.

I would like you to watch this, he would answer most of your questions:

US Ambassador Christopher Stevens

The US ambassador to Libya has
died after being attacked by
militiamen storming the US
consulate in the eastern city of
Benghazi, reports say.

The ambassador was said to be
among four US officials killed in a
protest over a US-produced film that is said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.

The US state department has only
confirmed the death of one official -
but it has not named him.

Protesters over the film have also attacked the US embassy in Cairo.

In the attack in Benghazi, unidentified armed men stormed the grounds, shooting at buildings and throwing handmade bombs into the compound. Security forces returned fire but Libyan officials say they were overwhelmed.

Security forces returned fire but Libyan officials say they were overwhelmed. A Libyan official has said Ambassador Stevens died from suffocation as a result of the attack.

'No justification'

In a statement earlier, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed the
death of a US official, saying: "We are heartbroken by this terrible loss".

"Some have sought to justify this
vicious behaviour as a response to
inflammatory material posted on the
Internet," she said in a statement. "The United States deplores any
intentional effort to denigrate the
religious beliefs of others. But let me
be clear: There is never any
justification for violent acts of this
kind."

Reports say a militia known as the
Ansar al-Sharia brigade was involved in the attack, but the group has denied the claim, the BBC's Rana Jawad in Tripoli says. Our correspondent says many people
are still armed following the conflict
that overthrew Col Muammar Gaddafi last year.

The film that sparked the
demonstration is said to have been
produced by a 52-year-old US citizen from California named Sam Bacile, and promoted by an expatriate Egyptian Copt.
The two men are described as having anti-Islamic views.

A trailer of the low-budget movie has appeared on YouTube translated into Arabic.

There were calls on social media
networks for protests against US
interests in the capital, Tripoli, but no disturbances have been confirmed, our correspondent says.

The rally followed a demonstration in Cairo, in which protesters breached the US embassy and tore down the US flag, which was flying at half mast to mark the 9/11 attacks, and replaced it
with an Islamist banner.

Thousands of protesters had gathered outside the US embassy in the Egyptian capital. Egyptian protesters condemned what
they said was the humiliation of the
Prophet of Islam under the pretext of freedom of speech.

"Both Muslims and Christians are
participating in this protest against this offence to Islam," said one protester, according to Associated Press news agency.

What are the repercussions. Does the US pull out its people from unstable Muslim countries?

Do other Western countries follow suit?

Do we see this escalating into some serious polarization globally?

Do channels of communication break down?

Does war follow? Where? On whom? For how long?

He had to go, Frenchies were tired of him...every resistance movement in "French" (linguistically) Africa had ties to Gaddafi (this going back to the 70's of the previous century). The Brits wanted revenge for Lockerbie, they brought the US along together with French pressure, Italians just wanted the gas/oil, ENI i believe got a lot of contracts post war.
One poster (French) on another forum claimed he knows circles which were opening champaigne upon the news that Daffy died like a rat in some sewer pipe.

But ye i agree, this wouldnt have happened under Daffy.

What a stupid and utterly idiotic post. How does this einstein make it through the day without hurting himself must be the 8th wonder of the world.

Lord have mercy
!!!

This is about the millionth post from you along these lines.

Put away your popcorn and give your bloodlust a rest, will you?

Duke Experts: Violence Against U.S. Compounds Could Tarnish Islam's Image and Endanger Muslims

The long-term interests of both sides require caution in tone, rhetoric and actions, says professor David Schanzer

September 12, 2012 | Steve Hartsoe

Durham, NC - The violence by Muslim extremists against U.S. compounds in Libya and Egypt could further tarnish the religion's image worldwide, and result in retaliation against Muslims in the United States, warned Duke experts Wednesday.

U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed Tuesday when a mob of protesters and gunmen attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The violence was reportedly prompted by an American-made film that ridicules Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

Protesters also angered by the video rioted at the U.S. embassy in Cairo Tuesday, raising Islamic banners in place of the American Flag.

Both attacks could have negative repercussions against Muslims, Duke experts said.

"The orchestrators of the violent protests in Cairo and Benghazi have viciously exploited the religious sensitivities of unsuspecting Muslims and rallied mobs to their cause," said Ebrahim Moosa, a professor of religion and Islamic studies. "Their reprehensible demagoguery in using a film trailer designed to inflame Muslim religious sensitivities with the resultant loss of life has once again tarnished the image of Islam and Muslims."

Moosa said he suspects the riots were the work of the public relations units of sophisticated terrorist groups "who have been spoiling for a fight."

"It might be time that religious leaders in the Muslim world desist from playing the blasphemy card if they do not wish to hand a victory to provocateurs who are hell-bent on destabilizing their societies," he said. "The senseless deaths of the U.S. ambassador and embassy staff might endanger Muslims living in the West, especially in the U.S., since some hate groups could retaliate against Muslims here."

David Schanzer, associate professor of the practice at the Sanford School of Public Policy, said the makers of the "repugnant film" reject the legitimacy of Islam and refuse to distinguish between radical extremists and a religion followed by 1.2 billion people around the globe.

Likewise, Muslim extremists equate the acts of a few Americans with the United States as a whole, added Schanzer, director of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security.

"Leaders in the U.S. and the Middle East face enormous challenges to ensure that the center holds firm, especially in the aftermath of the Arab uprisings, where Islamist parties have gained power and the Islamic identity of the governments in power is increasing," Schanzer said.

The long-term interests of both sides require caution regarding tone, rhetoric and actions, he added.

Patrick Duddy, a former U.S. ambassador to Venezuela and now a visiting senior lecturer at Duke, called the killing of Ambassador Stevens and his colleagues "tragic," and said the attacks warrant the "condemnation of peace-loving people everywhere."

"This attack on American diplomats also reminds us of the challenges inherent in post 9-11 diplomacy," Duddy said. "American diplomats and development professionals serve at more than 240 diplomatic posts around the world. Many are working places that are remote, often in conditions that are difficult and in circumstances that can be dangerous."

Tuesday's violence against U.S. compounds is the result of the rising influence of extremist religious groups in several countries in the region known as the Salafis, said Abdeslam Maghraoui, director of undergraduate studies at Duke's Department of Political Science.

He said the groups have recently attacked shrines and mosques in Libya and sub-Saharan Africa that belonged to Suffi, a more tolerant branch of Islam. In Tunisia, Salafis have attacked secular artists, writers and women for undermining Islam. In Egypt, the Salafi Nour Party, which advocates a very conservative interpretation of Islam, has won an astonishing 25 percent of the vote, Maghraoui said.

"The killing of the U.S. envoy in Libya following the armed mob attack is a worrisome and tragic development," he said. "Notwithstanding the particular circumstances of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Cairo and Benghazi, these incidents are part of a wider and troubling ideological trend."
