US adheres to double standards and confirms that the Golan Heights belongs to Israel
  • 2018-11-18 23:10:07
Following the statement that "Israel is the ideal Middle East", the United States voted for the first time in the United Nations on a Golan Heights resolution, expressed its support for Israel and received gratitude from Israel.
However, the ending is rather embarrassing.

However, the ending is rather embarrassing.
According to the British "Guardian" local time reported on November 16, the United States voted for the first time against such a UN draft resolution: demanding that Israel end the occupation of the Golan Heights.
The Golan Heights is strategically located between Israel and Syria. The British media pointed out that in the 1967 Middle East war, Israel seized most of the Golan Heights (about 1,200 square kilometers) from Syria, which was condemned by the international community.

The situation in the Golan Heights after 1974
According to reports, the United States had previously abstained from voting on the resolution on "the Syrian Golan was occupied." These resolutions determine that Israel’s jurisdiction over the region is “ineffective” and is a “blatant violation of international law”.
But on Thursday (15th), the situation changed. Nikki Haley, the outgoing US representative to the United Nations, announced on the same day that the United States would vote against the UN General Assembly resolution.
This is a non-binding motion that is voted every year. In her statement, Helle said that "the United States will not abstain from voting when the United Nations conducts an annual useless vote on the Golan Heights issue. If the resolution once had a meaning, it must be meaningless now. Obviously biased against Israel."

At the same time, she also opposed the return of the area to Syria because “the atrocities committed by the Syrian authorities have proved that it is not suitable for managing anyone.”
According to reports, in February this year, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had asked Trump to recognize Israel’s "sovereignty" against the Golan Heights.
The British media believe that Israel has been coveting the region and has also raised the instability caused by the Syrian civil war, but has consolidated the legitimacy of the region as a security buffer.

However, US National Security Adviser Bolton said in August that he did not discuss the US officially endorsing Israel’s control of the Golan Heights.
In September, Trump’s former private lawyer and US ambassador to Israel Friedman expressed the hope that Israel will “forever” retain the Golan Heights.
It is reported that after Heili’s statement, Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said that this statement is “very important”.
Danny Danon, the Israeli representative to the United Nations, expressed his gratitude to Heli and said that the relevant resolution was "despicable". "It is time to separate the people who stabilize the region from those who spread terrorism." .

According to Observer Network, “Russia (RT) today believes that the US President has maintained a superficial image of the middleman between Israel and the Arab neighbors in the past few decades, but the Trump administration subsequently began to fully support Israel.
On December 6, last year, Trump announced that he would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and then moved the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
US Secretary of State Pompeo also declared that Israel "democratic and prosperous, it longs for peace, is a paradise for freedom of the press and a prosperous economy" and calls it "we hope that the entire Middle East will develop."
This statement by Heili is exactly in line with the recent performance of the United States. However, on the 16th, in the case of only Israel and the United States voted against, the UN General Assembly Committee adopted the above draft resolution with 151 votes in favor and 14 abstentions.

Stupid and Misleading title of the thread.
Voting no to end occupation does not mean a recognition that Golan belongs to Israel.
Occupation can legally continue until there is a peace agreement between Syria and Israel and Syria provides plausible evidence that the Golan Heights will not be used in the future to attack Israel.
The UN vote is just the annual desperate attempt by Arabs to circumvent the Geneva Comvention.

Meanwhile Israel has annexed the Golan Heights.
No other country has recognized this annexation.
Only when they do this, they recognize that the Golan Heights belong to Israel.
So far, the US does not appear to plan any such recognition.
