US adds Pakistan to blacklist for 'religious freedom violations'

Even if we have China on our side, we need to learn to stand up on our two feet and not be dependent on anyone.

This is the fault of our foreign policy.

The foreign policy aspects have somewhat improved tho compared to Mushy they bowing to the Yanks have ended plus I like how Pakistan stayed out of the KSA mess in Syria and Yemen

Agreed with you. Pakistan first before other countries.

This is pressure tactics nothing else at all, India is ten times worse when it comes to religious freedom, but because they are currently one of USA best buddies, its no surprise why they are not on the list, Pakistan needs to focus on it itself and stand up on its own feet.

rather then bashing USA why not we see how our religious minorities are suffering ?

USA has lost all its credibility if they had one before trump. Now they are loosing allies in big number and soon they will be left alone. Just a matter of time.

Some would say ohh Pakistan is missing big oppertunity to help the Yemenis and Syrians I say f...ck that we need to focus on own people first only thing Pakistan should do is be mediator when asked other than that stay out

WASHINGTON: The United States said Tuesday it has added Pakistan to its blacklist of countries that violate religious freedom, ramping up pressure over its treatment of minorities.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he had designated Pakistan among “countries of particular concern” in a congressionally mandated annual report, a year after the State Department put Pakistan on a watchlist without legal consequences.

“On November 28, 2018, I designated Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, as countries of particular concern under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 for having engaged in or tolerated ”systematic, ongoing, [and] egregious violations of religious freedom,” the US State Department press release on religious freedom designations reads.

Why don't they add Saudi Arabia to the blacklist. Americans are just hypocrites.

Are we supposed to feel bad now?
Yes:

Q: Why does the United States have a responsibility to publish an annual report on International Religious Freedom?

A: Religious freedom is a universally acknowledged right enshrined in numerous international covenants and declarations such as the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Helsinki Accords, and others. When we strive to advance religious freedom, we are simply urging other nations to join with us in upholding a high but universal standard. In addition, respect for religious freedom and tolerance of the practices and beliefs of people of all faiths lie at the heart of the American identity and constitute some of main principles on which this country was founded. The United States has continued to attract new citizens from all over the world for this very reason. No country has a perfect record of religious freedom, including the United States, and we can all endeavor to reach a higher standard. We support the right of all countries to speak out when human rights, including religious freedom, are abused.

Q: Under what authority does the Department of State produce its annual report on International Religious Freedom and designate "Countries of Particular Concern" (CPCs)?

A: Congress passed the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA) of 1998 that established the Department of State's Office of International Religious Freedom headed by an Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom. The IRFA requires the preparation and transmittal to Congress of an Annual Report on International Religious Freedom detailing the status of religious freedom in each foreign country, violations of religious freedom by foreign governments, and United States' actions and policies in support of religious freedom. Separately, the IRFA also requires that each year the President designate as a "Country of Particular Concern" each country the government of which has engaged in or tolerated systematic, ongoing and egregious violations of religious freedom.

Pakistan voted for the adoption of the UDHR seventy years ago, on December 10, 1948.

The Americans are slowly, but surely moving towards a non-existent relationship...
This is the debate in U.S. diplomatic circles - and not a new one, either: fulfilling the legal mandate of IRFA may also spoil the relationship between the U.S. and IRFA-deficient countries. However, if such nations behave so poorly towards their own, is it really in American interests to remain on good terms with them?

America has lost its credibility after claiming WMD in Iraq now he can not fool the world its again bipolar

hi, Hope you are doing well

I read through the link and thought I would point out something. A country's internal struggle with issues should not be characterized as it's national character.
India having religious conflicts makes it a country with poor law and order enforcement infrastructure and not an intolerant nation, Just like having massive terror activities in Pakistan makes it a country struggling with security and not a terrorist nation.

US adds Pakistan to blacklist for religious freedom violations

–Pompeo says he has designated Pakistan among ‘countries of particular concern’ in annual report

WASHINGTON: The United States (US) on Tuesday added Pakistan to its blacklist of countries that violate religious freedom, ramping up pressure over the treatment of minorities in the country.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he had designated Pakistan among “countries of particular concern” in a Congressionally mandated annual report, meaning the US government is obliged to exert pressure to end freedom violations.

Pompeo a year earlier had placed Pakistan on a special watch list — a step short of the designation — in what had been seen as a US tactic to press Islamabad into reforms.

“In far too many places across the globe, individuals continue to face harassment, arrests or even death for simply living their lives in accordance with their beliefs,” Pompeo said in a statement.

“The United States will not stand by as spectators in the face of such oppression,” he said.

Nine countries remained for another year on the list of Countries of Particular Concern — China, Eritrea, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The US removed one country from the list — Uzbekistan — but kept it on the watch list.

Pompeo also put on the watch list Russia, adding another item of contention to the relationship between the two powers.

Russia has increasingly drawn concern in the US over its treatment of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the heterodox Christian group known for proselytization.

Also on the watch list was the Comoros, the Indian Ocean archipelago that is almost exclusively Sunni Muslim.
