Urban, rural divide could break India: Laloo

100 bucks a day is more than enough to live, All students who comes to study from villages in my city stays in mess, and it costs them around 1200 bucks per month including electricity/food/rent on shared basis.

My physics teacher who finished his MSC and is planning to do PHD stays here in a mess and spends around max max 2000 to 2500 bucks per month.

.
The amount also depends on where you live, if it is bombay sorry, delhi sorry but most places 3k to 4k per month is more than good enough for one person to live quite peacefully.

and oh he has his own cell ph connection as well.

Joey,

I think you are still not reading the posts!

85 IRS is only US $ 2.

That is on what 80% population of "Super power" lives. You are trying to calculate that 85 Indian Rupees in US $. That too is on PP terms, 30% are less then $ 1 buy which you can either afford a decent meal for one time or arrange dress, house, electricity, education, healthcare...............all in that.

.
The same way a common man survives in Pakistan on less than $2 a day. At $690 per capita(Source: World Bank) Pakistan doesn't earns more than $2.1 a day. Also, when converted in PPP, it becomes evident that services and commodities are exoensive in Pakistan. So, if millions in Pakistan can survive then so can Indians.

When it comes to Pakistan, PPP plays against them. Basic Requirements are more expensive than India in Pakistan. Therefore earning $2.1 in Pakistan is not worth as much as $2 in India. Sugar for Example costs 16/Kg while in Pakistan it cost 27/Kg..

India on 20 Cents a Day

The most recent World Bank estimates for India are based on household surveys carried out in 1999-2000. It was found that almost 80 percent of India’s population was surviving on less than $2.15 a day (in PPP terms). That is, about 800 million people were living on 40 cents a day or less. Nearly 35 percent (350 million) were found to be living on 20 cents a day or less. Thanks to the subtleties of PPP calculations, it may quite possibly be the case that the number of people across the world who are not able to meet the minimum standards for adequate nutrition is anywhere from 3 to 4 billion, rather than the officially estimated 2.7 billion who are estimated to be living under $2 a day. No one really knows. In other words, we could be off by a whole continent!]

Do it gives you some idea why it is 80%?????

$2= 85 Ruppees. I could live easily on that for a day....lemme

Morning Breakfast 2 Dosa's and tea - 20 ruppees - In a good restaurent.

India's per capita - $3700(Source)
Pakistan's per capita - $2600(Source)

Clearly visible that an average Indian has got more spending/Purchasing power than an average Pakistani. So, this whole slugfest turns out nothing but a big joke with a blind man calling a one-eyed person as handicaped.

As long as you took it as a joke:D . I hope you enjoyed laughing at yourself as well I don't know if you can use a Master/Visa in a curry shop in India. I really don't think India have this much poverty they are growing healthy in their economy and the awareness of poverty is well known in India and it is probably as we speak declining, India is creating so many new jobs I mean the Indian government.

To compare Pakistan and India in poverty, would be in terms of population India has a probably the second largest population in the world and Pakistan has only a 160 million people living in its country of course the numbers would be huge to compare so its really sad if people compare both respected countries in that manor. Well it’s a fact that India is creating a huge number of jobs for its civilians to earn and live a better life and therefore the poverty issue will hopefully go away with in a decades time for India.
