We need to remember that in the global scheme of things we are still only a middling power. Arguably nations such as France, UK, Germany, Japan still have more global influence than us. We are still slowly opening up to the world after 50 odd years of idiotic closed economy and licence raj. We NEED the US a lot more than they NEED us. We need their business investment, we need their defence technologies we need their support to get into the Non proliferation group and Wassenar group, we need their cooperation in so many other different ways. Its in our VITAL INTEREST to cooperate with the US if we ever want to get out of this middling power grouping and truly achieve our potential and i see our potential as being one of the poles of world power, the other three being China, US and EU (if they get their act together).

Thanks for the post. I agree. India has a lot potential but its all on paper. India needs strong leadership and finally Indian voters woke up and realized that. I have always felt the US is crucial and with Modi at the helm, we got a shot. I knew Congress was incapabel from day 1. Sometimes, you got to make sure a corrupt party enjoys short term success because it eventually relieves long term inefficiencies. When the public finally see's the massive scale of incompetence and corruption, they will either be forced to act or flee. And thats what happened. Congress in control engaged in massive corruption. Modi had no shot unless the ppl of India got fed up with it. The only way to project and make sure Modi gets a chance as PM, is to bait the corrupt politicans in Congress with money. Under MSS, and opening up to the US, allowed greater wealth creation. Real estate and other industries enjoyed great investment and returns. It was only time, the corrupt would fall prey to their own tendencies. This is how to rig the game for Modi and a nationalistic gov't to step in and guide India thru.



Since I first met Modi by accident as a kid, I felt he was the only one with a vested interest to help India. However, being aligned with the BJP/RSS his chances were slim to none. (The riots only made the situation worse) This is where vision and creativity comes into play. Someone had to go around, get the US to be open minded about India and see the potential. I truly want India and US relations to grow higher than ever before.
