Uniform civil code: will it work in India?

e.g., muslims believe in multiple marriages hindus do not. islam doesnt allow the re marriage of a girl for 4months and 10 days post divorce or death of the husband. what is the hinduism point of view? as per Islam, the wife gets 1/8th i.e., 12.5% of the inheritance of the husband and of the remaining 87.5% sons get double the share as compared to the sisters in case of inheritance? I am unaware of hindu laws regarding these matters.

will it be hindu point of view or the muslim point of view implemented in the ucc?

in my opinion these are certain small matters that should be left to the communities.Bringing them under a law divergent form their beliefs may cause further unwanted tension in your society. Anyways it is your country, you know best

India urgently needs uniform civil code to promote real secularism. What we have right now in India is selective secularism. Most importantly uniform civil code will also help in improving the condition of women in India. A uniform civil code will help in changing these age old traditions that have no place in today’s society.
It will also help in reducing vote bank politics that most political parties indulge in during every election. If all religions are covered under the same laws, the politicians will have less to offer to certain minorities in exchange of their vote.

Wife, son, daughter, all get equal share of the inheritance, unless ofcourse there is a will by the deceased that states otherwise.

I believe Muslim women will be benefitted by the UCC.

Shah Bano case is perfect example of ignorance of Women's right in muslims, and need of UCC. The politics is dirty, dont know but how a liberal person like Rajeev Gandhi passed such a pathetic bill.

Does not matter how unpopular it is among muslims,,it has to be implemented for betterment of this nation and for muslims themselves particularly the women ,ending shady sharia courts run by aimplb(shia,sunni seperate) which are totally dominated by males and are totally skewed in their favour.

I do agree that some (women) find loop holes in such laws to trap men. But then lets talk about hundreds and thousands who need such laws. Let me give you an example, despite easing the way a woman is questioned or medically checked after a rape,the number of cases which get reported is far less than the actual numbers.
But if somebody is taking advantage of the leniency given by such laws then they should be punished be it a man or woman.

The issue is Indian women 're brought up in a way that they remain very domestic, most of the gals 're not athletic and so forget about 'em kicking ahem.

I'm not sure UCC would empower woman much, am just not very sanguine about it.

That is not only in India but everywhere in the world. Here is the sequence of treatments:

Children> Old Age> Women>Dogs&cats> Men .

Pseudo-Feminism is on rise so you may see more such things in future.
