Understanding India's love for 'China maal' like Xiaomi, Gionee & OPPO
Mukta Lad, ET BureauOct 8, 2014, 08.16AM IST

whether it's Xiaomi, Gionee or OPPO, they all agree about three things — the power of a great product, innovation and competitive pricing. Forces strong enough to overcome any anti-Chinese sentiment. "The products themselves are the key to success," says Tom Lu, CEO, OPPO Mobiles India. "Any user looking for a great device and an incredible experience will choose a product based on its features, specifications, looks and ROI."

Xiaomi's 49-inch Android TV boasts 4K for just $640

The Mi Pad wasn't Xiaomi's only announcement today. Following the Chinese company's first smart TV from last September, today it has unveiled a slightly larger model with a nice surprise: 4K for just CN¥3,999 or about $640! Like its affordable predecessor, this 49-inch TV comes with built-in Android (with MIUI TV skin), though you can easily side-load other TV apps. On the hardware side, you'll find a 4K 3D panel made by either LG or CSOT within a 6.2mm aluminum bezel, and underneath that lies a MediaTek MStar 6A918 chip (1.45GHz quad-core CPU, Mali-450 MP4 GPU) plus 2GB of RAM to drive all those pixels. On top of the built-in 8GB space, you also get to add up to 64GB of storage via microSD.

The MI TV 2 comes with a few nice goodies. Most notably, it has a Bluetooth LE remote instead of the old infrared version, and should you lose it in your room, you can even tap the bottom of the TV to make the remote beep. Alternatively, you can also install the remote app on your phone, with which you can use gestures and voice to control the TV, as well as read up related info -- some of which comes from IMDB -- about the show you're watching.
Another nice feature here is the audio part. CEO Lei Jun said that in order to keep the TV's thickness at 15.5mm, his team decided to store the speakers in separate parts: a wired audio bar with the mid-range and treble drivers, and a Bluetooth subwoofer with the 8-inch driver. Better yet, you can also use this kit with your mobile devices via Bluetooth.
As for availability, Lei admitted that his company didn't do so well with the production rate of the original MI TV, but this time he said this should no longer be a problem, partly because he's teamed up with Wistron and Pegatron. Folks in China will be able to order one on May 27th, but for the rest of us, chances are we'll never see one outside the country any time soon.

Today we are here to give a real product disassembly for Mi TV2, there are many rumors online, mostly about the workmanship, built quality and display panels, to break these rumors, the most fundamental solution is to disassemble the TV, What components are used and installed, is it worth the money spend in the end.

First we look at its appearance, one of the most obvious difference for Mi TV2 is the upgraded to 49-inch screen size, resolution upgraded to 4K, while including the wireless subwoofer and Soundbar, 3999RMB is also fairly reasonable pricing package (provided you can buy), compared with Mi TV1 the base replaced by feet stand, the bottom border is also narrower than Mi TV1. Aesthetic level has been greatly improved.

Lying down flat, you can see the main interfaceare concentrated to the right of the TV, below black bar is the trackpad, just like Mi TV1, no physical buttons.

Here we begin to dismantling steps, you first need to split the television stands, two screws, very simple.

After removal of the stand, you can see there are four holes, you can adjust the height of the stands by changing the position of the screw, is a good design.

Unlike most television, Mi TV2 power cord is connected together, so we have to open here first, look at the internal structure.

Once opened, you can see the structure inside, cannot be directly plugged in, fixed with a snappower lines, to prevent excessive pulling wire.

In order to open up the back cover, you need to insert screwdriver into the warranty label, of course, doing so will void your warranty.
6591209f48269c88349dd099584311a4.jpg

The exciting moment is here, back already open, we can see hidden circuit boards. At first glance, the workmanship is good.

Interface of power cord and power supply board position, where the use of snap plug design, so the power cord plug cannot be replace by yourself, flexibility is limited, and once it need to disassemble replace faulty wire, the cost is higher.

After back cover completely opened, the left side is the TV motherboard, the largest part on the right side is the power supply board. lower black bar below is the twospeakers (who says there is no speakers in Mi TV2?), In the middle of the speaker is the new touch module. Between the various circuit boards are connected by cable, traces clean, reasonable circuit board layout, compared with Mi TV1 (chart below shows the dismantling of Mi TV1), is simply a qualitative improvement.

Label on the LCD screen, can be sure this is a piece to LGDisplay LCD screen tailored for Xiaomi, this screen are numbered LC490EQJ-SGK1, physical resolution is 3840 * 2160, is a true 4K screen, using RGB pixel arrangement (not online rumors RGBW), display color is 10bit, with the spec as LeTV X50, no backlight, backlight module by the Wistron to reduce costs, the screen refresh rate and response time are still in the unknown, the possibility of 60HZ.

The power supply section to the right, which is Mi TV2 power circuit board, the bottom right is the power input, the upper left corner is the power output, connected by a cable to the motherboard. Power board components dense, relatively neatly arranged, the overall workmanship is good.

...coming from an Indian :omghaha:
Yeah, coming from an Indian. And its not an India only phenomenon.

In general market, like heavy electrical, toys or some other, Indian goods are better quality. But they are far costlier than the Chinese. Besides, Chinese goods have better finishing/features for cost. That means despite their quality, Chinese goods are preferable.

...is that the world in your mind? Indian goods are better? you meant climax oil?
In China, we produce high-end to the cheapest goods, and for big part of users(like Indians), for their income, only the cheap ones can be afforded. So stop talking about quality, it's not from your mouth, it's from factory and under QC, if Indian can offer better goods.

ARE THESE GOODS FAMOUS FOR QUALITY ON THE WORLD?

There are very limited 'Indian' goods available. But yeah, they do excel in certain areas, otherwise they can't compete with the cheap/feature rich Chinese products.

My experience in India for comparing the two has been limited to electrical goods, machinery and furniture. Indian goods can't compete in price, features and finishing. They had to give quality.

Nopes its not like that. The chinese products have a very bad image in generic for not being durable in generic. And that impacts even the good products.

The thing is china does not have a brand value in india. It is more like dilli marka (made in delhi) kinda products of 90s

are they doing export? if you feel good in India, did you realize maybe the politics limit import of good quality staffs?

'cause your ppl prefer to choice the low priced goods, and your import dealer are importing things like that, but in China even for cheap price, we still have good quality product. Other side is I even cannot see any Indian goods on local market, but expensive ones are hot here from EU and others.

Indian goods do not sound well in the biggest market on earth.

I may be wrong i dont think government resistricts good quality products because our markets are already full of products from other multinationals. And government is striving for good quality cheaper products. But in case if its retail its mandatory to partner with an indian org.

Those who think that China does not produce high-end devices can only be categorized as stupidly ignorant and falsely conceited, both syndromes of extreme insecurity。:D

Do you know the magic of McDs, they can bring an "tasty," to some, product on essentially no little cost. You think the people at McDs don't know how to make good food with good quality ingredients?

Your talk of quality, you think we can't? It takes a long time to be able to figure out, how to build something cheaply while still effective.

Anyone can build a good device given the cash. Like a Lambo, you think Toyota can't build a car like that? They could, but they choose to make money instead.

Also, since Modi is saying make in India, do you know what that means? If successful. I don't think he was talking of spaceships.

You just have no idea how hard to have a company in Indian as a foreigner, so many officers will come to charge lots of non-official things.
Btw, government control is a good thing for your local companies, otherwise some of them like TATA will be crushed by impact of foreigners'.
