ISLAMABAD:
The Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) envisages completion of 39 power generating projects that will add 18,861 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid station by 2019.
PPIB Managing Director N A Zuberi informed the Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power that these projects include 16 hydel, two coal, six gas, six cogeneration and nine thermal projects.
He informed that 13,103MW will be generated by hydel, 2,505MW by coal, 1,202MW by gas, 525MW by cogeneration and 1,526MW by thermal. He added that China Three Gorges International will construct Karot and Kohala hydropower projects. Which will cost $1.6 billion and $2.2 billion respectively.

Great News But 2019 a LONG way too go anyway :pakistan:

. .
good news

in 5 to 6 years there will be very less load shedding in Pakistan, if thing go as they should

.
Good news that hydel is being aggressively pursued.

let's just hope now that there are no delays and nepotism.

.
If u calculate 10% growth in demand then these so called 18,861 MW will not bring any relief and situation will be same as of today because of demand and supply gap.

And these 18,861 MW is a fairytale figure as most of these are based on foreign loans and treaties. Even the work on most of them is yet to begin in full pace.

.
Hope Pakistan's power crisis will be solved with that.

.
what about renewable energy projects already under construction such as solar energy in sindh and punjab and wind power at multiple places. WHY no addition of that in article ?

.
Those are projects under feasibility studies.
The ones mentioned are in advanced phases, with budgets assigned to them.

18,861 MW divided by 7 years gives a figure of around 2,694 MW a year, which should be OK till the cumulative MWs are achieved.
