What's new

Uncharted waters...Meet the Royal Australian Navy’s trailblazing Muslim Captain Mona Shindy

apparently you missed the fact that world has more people than indians

Well in india even people who arent religious like SRK are asked to go back to Pakistan...so I am almost sure what kind of Muslim and Christian friends you would have grown up with who cant even portray what they think or what their religion says....

Uncalled for no one here is chest thumping except indians even on a topic about Australia!

Sadly no room for diversity....Not me saying SRK's words!

Why not? FEW things happen but few to many things in few months is a different level and does reek of intolerance!

Show me where I said this? Kindly do stop projecting your complex!

1 Muslim? Really?

Because being indian your mindset cant think that far?

Why is Islam brought to be judged when few do bad but never when few do good? why the hypocrisy?

Show me one one country more diverse and pluraristic than India. Maybe Africa as a whole can come near us in that scale.
Who asked SRK to go back to Pakistan? Me or PM or CM? A motormouth in a party. Random elements of 10 in 130 crores.
SRK? When does SRK become India's spokesperson of secularism? When his movie My name is Khan was threatened by Shiv Sena, his Hindu fans, protected theatres for his movie release. Without Indian secularism there is no SRK.
Can u mentioned "few incidents in few months". The so called Vandalism in Churches and nun rapes were found to be done by Muslims themselves later by investigation. Yes. There was Dadri Lynching. One murder out of 1000's happening in the world, is not few incidents. Its unfortunate. But India can overcome it. Atleast we arent abducting minority girls and converting them.

.

1? soo many "pluralist" indians going out of india to US and UK every month/ year makes almost every other country more pluralistic than india

and the events have gotten more than just that! That is the latest and most funny!

 denial mode I guess

Typical indian mindset cant counter spew shit against the other :tsk:

BTW, if you have forgotten thread is about Australia

. .
Most mothers in the U.S work, and so do both parents. We are producing great generations of kids who put country first. There are extensive studies done on this topic of two parents working, showing no detrimental affect on children

It is also not about ' Trying to be more feminist than a woman'. Rather about his statement about her being allowed to stay out long as opposed to her husband helping out periodically through her career.

Keep digging, it is obviously a cultural thing.

LOOL What do you expect bro? Obviously Muslims in general have their own religion and culture, which means a woman should first and foremost be subservient to a man and under her husband. This is the main reason why most women in the middle east HAVE NEVER been seen as an equal to men/their husbands. Its only in the western world who has recently seen much progress during these past century/decades that we see women getting the same treatment as their male counterparts in terms of work/social life, rights etc.

For example in almost all western countries a woman has the same rights(in the U.K even more rights.lol) as her husband in almost all fields; like the right to divorce and keep half of their wealth, right to go out without anybody permission whatsoever, right to remarry after divorce, right to even cheat(just like a man does.lol) etc etc. In the muslim world/middle east a man can marry as many women as he pleases/polygamy, but the woman should 'behave' and cover up and dares not even think about divorce without the husband's consent/permission much less cheat or marry other men etc.

In short it will also take middle eastern countries decades/centuries of progress to get to the current level of equality between men and women we have in the west. We have to give them time though, since even the west took quite a while to also get to where we are today.

However i think it will take middle eastern countries farrrr more time to achieve this, since its more of a cultural/religious/traditional thing, and not enough people there indulge in self-criticism about such a sensitive issue.:)

Isn't that what this thread is all about ? How one person stands out by being a Muslim ?

Because being indian your mindset cant think that far?

Hypocrisy lies in the fact that you consider some one to be special because that person was born with in a Muslim family, practicing or not, that is a different story.

it is about she bringing a good name to Islam in contrast with what the general media loves to show off....And she is 1 of the many the media doesnt highlight!

Special? Why are they less than any other? When media bad mouths Islam it has to be truth but when stereotypes of such are being broken than it is 1 Muslim or some BS or another?

Cant learn to appreciate anything except hate?

The question is, how is this even remotely related to religion ? Are you meaning, all the other officers in Australian navy are doing a service to Christianity ?
Special? Why are they less than any other? When media bad mouths Islam it has to be truth but when stereotypes of such are being broken than it is 1 Muslim or some BS or another?
The question is how is it any more than any other officer ? And how is it related to religion ?
Cant learn to appreciate anything except hate?
Show me one single comment of mine that is hateful. I'm talking about your misinterpretation of facts and portraying it to be something else, which it is not.
She is a young officer doing a service to her nation, don't put a burqa of religion on that.

.
how is this even remotely related to religion ?
IS it not?

Did you read OP? I believe not!

The question is how is it any more than any other officer ? And how is it related to religion ?
More? She got awards....and she countered the previous BS reports that all Muslim women are oppressed when they don the simple hijab, or all Muslims are not working FOR their host country - Heck read OP...Didnt india teach you to read before questioning?

I'm talking about your misinterpretation of facts and portraying it to be something else, which it is not.
Show me if you have read OP?! This statement alone shows you havent ...Oh boy ! A clear troll!

She is a young officer doing a service to her nation, don't put a burqa of religion on that.
WTH? trolling again? You are filled with hatred and seriously in need to read OP I even highlighted for people like you!

Reported for trolling = didnt read OP and BS based on hatred!

How is she different? Here you go:
Never before had an active Australian warship carried women. But aged 23 and launching what would become a 26-year career with the Navy, this was just the first hurdle of a trailblazer.

Captain Shindy and her two female room-mates were like celebrities

Most female engineers in any work environment _ you really do have to work that little bit harder initially to prove your worth, to demonstrate your competence to really be accepted fully as valued member and a real contributor to the team.”

How is she special?
She was previously charged with turning around the Fast Frigate System Program Office, from an inefficient organisation with adversarial stakeholder relationships, to a collaborative culture with performance-based contracts. And she shaved 30 per cent in costs from a $130 million budget.

How this about ISLAM in the limelight?
Then came the challenge of Ramadan
she was fasting and would appreciate a meal being put aside for her.

Why or how she stands out?
recognised this week when she was named NSW Telstra Business Woman of the Year. As Director Littoral Warfare and Maritime Support, Captain Shindy advises the Government on the best way to spend billions of dollars on replacement tankers, ships, patrol boats — almost everything except submarines.

holds the position of Chief of Navy’s Strategic Adviser on Islamic Cultural Affairs, for which she was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in this year’s Australia Day honours for her work bridging cultural divides.

And she can cite her own experience, including active service at the start of the 2003 Iraq War.

How this about ISLAM in the limelight?

Being an officer in the navy has got nothing to do with religion. I can also write a report that will highlight her immigrant aspect of life. But then again, even that has got nothing to do with her being an officer in the navy.
This article is biased in portrayal.

Let me draw you a parallel. When we talk about an Indian being a CEO of some big company or doing something innovative, we highlight the hard work that goes behind it, it's not Hinduism. Being Hindu did not propel that person to the position of CEO, hard work did. Similarly, if something has to be highlighted here, it is her dedication and devotion, with perhaps a note for her background, nothing more than that.
You are trying hard to make it look like being Muslim was the achievement, it's not. That's religious bigotry.

Being an officer has everything to do with what you do to get there.....
. I can also write a report that will highlight her immigrant aspect of life.
Then do so! Thats your narrative that you cant see a religion associated with a human being esp if that religion is Islam! And esp if that human being is successful!

This article is biased in portrayal.
The article is clearly not for indian trolls....

It is about her journey as both a woman and a Muslim in a navy of a democratic country which has not reduced her freedom!

Yes.. It starts and ends there.
Then do so! Thats your narrative that you cant see a religion associated with a human being esp if that religion is Islam! And esp if that human being is successful!
Clearly the metaphor is lost on you. It's a simple question. What has religion got to do anything with one lady being an officer ? The hundreds of other Christian officers, how are they not special by the same yard stick ? If they are special too, then it is not special any more.

The article is clearly not for indian trolls....
Blame your debating skills, not me.
It is about her journey as both a woman and a Muslim in a navy of a democratic country which has not reduced her freedom!
You need to come out of your middle age mentality. The educated part of the World does not see fairer sex or a particular religion as impediment to the society.

.
What has religion got to do anything with one lady being an officer ?
The topic is the lady officer- her identity is Muslim

So I think this applies to you:
lost on you

The hundreds of other Christian officers, how are they not special by the same yard stick ? If they are special too, then it is not special any more.
How are they special? their religion doesnt get questioned when they are do something as simple as breathe! Let alone serve as an officer!

Blame your debating skills, not me.
Trolling is a skill I dont posses neither is ignorance!

You need to come out of your middle age mentality
I didnt write the article so maybe the one who wrote is also of middle age? Lovely narrow minded thinking!

The educated part of the World does not see fairer sex or a particular religion as impediment to the society.
Really? I want to see them slaughter all whites with the same pen they slaughter all women/ Muslims/ Blacks....And the article clearly says (since you havent read OP its shame you are still stuck to your ignorance and denial) that it WAS TOUGH TO BE THE FIRST WOMAN on board the ship !
