The State Concern “Ukroboronprom” has submitted proposal to extend the life and upgrade the capabilities of the Indian Army’s T-72 Main Battle Tank (MBT) fleet, that was reported by informed Agency “Interfax-Ukraine”.

“The Indian side is interested in placing an order for the modernization of T-72 in Ukraine, currently, the parties are negotiating on the organization of cooperation. The estimated demand of the Indian customer in the modernized T-72, according to some estimates, is estimated at more than 1 thousand units,” – stated in the message.

According to the source, the main Indian requirements – conduct re-engine armored vehicles with engine replacement for a Ukrainian 6TD-2 power 1200 HP, and also equip tanks with air conditioning and Autonomous power plant.

The Indian T-72 Ajeya Tank is a licence manufactured Russian T-72M1, which started in the late 1970’s. It’s believed some 1700 have been delivered to the Indian Army. During the 1990’s, as the Arjun (Mk I) development dragged on, hundreds of T-72M1’s (named Ajeya) were in need overhauling and repairing and opportunity normally capitalised upon to implement upgrades.

India has been working on a long-term upgrade program of its Ajeya’s in stages.

In 2016 UKROBORONPROM holds a course for transition to high-tech manufacturing, international standards (NATO) and supplying the army with modern types of armaments. The State Concern expands cooperation with NATO and the EU countries, as defined by the strategic course of the state. In 2015 UKROBORONPROM export contracts amounted to more than $ 1.3 billion.

I think India is looking to upgrade ''T72 Battle Upgraded Ajeya Mk3'' once again :p:

Replacing 780HP with 1200HP !
So Indian T72 will carry more power full engine compared to all T90s they got? Interesting .......
well we all know what will happen in the end .......... just like integration of LEDS15 on T90 :D
