i think need to update your self guys .f16 is not our main fighter when we get j-10 and letter j-11b so why we need tanker for f-16 future of pakistan i conected to chaines fighters f-16 is no temperary on top of the fighters in pakistan in 2009 we get first bath of -j 10.then game is over for f-16 .future of pakistan air force is j-10 j11B jxx not f-16 f 18 super hornet f-35.so its looks a joke that we pay milloins of $$$$$ for a temprary job.remember PAF know what they do better then all of us .i trust my air force think tanks they done best for pakistan .

Look dude, enough people in PAF have committed to worshipping the F-16. Half of the PAF fans on this forum even spent their childhood getting excited over pics of F-16s. So right now for the next 3 or 4 years at least the F-16 is the best combat craft in PAF and there are not that many of them in service so they need refuelling.

The sensible thing to do was to decide 10-15 years ago to get rid of the F-16 for good but people like Nawaz Sharif and later Agent Mushy somehow managed to give the F-16 an extended life in PAF. Bribes, stupidy, pressure? I don't know but the reality is that this 2nd rate piece of junk is the best PAF had for the last 20 years and it will be the best for the next 3 years--so it needs refuelling!

Now above I was being optimistic but there is always the possibilty that with some more voodoo magic PAF will be cursed with more F-16s who knows? Anyway the point is that this curse must have refuelling unfortunately.

deal finished from a year dude and before you jumping serch google or check this forum .money you don't warry abut it we have history of waipens shopings can you see one time pakistan have 500mn reserves and deal af agusta 90b was 950 mn$ who its done you can see with your little eyes.there is no problims abut your arguing your whole gov also not argning and jumping to russia for stop jf-17 and j-10 engenes se what happens.

Can’t keep cursing the past…what’s done is done…time to look ahead bro…

PAF is looking forward to acquire whatever best suits her requirements while remaining within her budget constraints….We cant have everything , get over with it now….

I think it’s the right time to receive these aircrafts….Slowly but surely all the missing pieces of the puzzle are fitting in…While these refuellers will be able to support the bulk of PAFs future fleet, the F-16 fleet will have to rely on their onboard fuel only….Although it’s a handicap but considering that they will be mostly employed in ESCORT role (….not as a strike fighter) provides some consolation ….Cheerup now

Il-78 Tankers Arrive in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - Two Il-78MP Midas tanker aircraft have arrived in Pakistan, apparently the first of four purchased from the Ukraine.

Though the Pakistan Air Force declined to comment, the two aircraft landed at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Dec. 2, and were clearly visible from the observation lounge in their low-observation-gray PAF livery.

Though it was unusual that the two military aircraft did not land at the nearby Masroor or Faisal air bases, their presence validates November reports in local media about their impending arrival.




But reports that Cobham was to equip Pakistan's Il-78s with refueling pods were incorrect. A Cobham official said at last week's biannual Pakistani defense exhibition, IDEAS2008, that the pods were still the Soviet-designed UPAZs, and that the refueling kits on receiving aircraft, such as the newly upgraded Mirage-IIIs, were likely to be South African in origin.

The Il-78s will give the PAF its first airborne refueling capability. They will help train Pakistani crews in mid-air refueling techniques, and once operational will be used to refuel the Mirage-III and eventually JF-17 Thunder.

Air Force officials did confirm the $108 million order of 100 MAR-1 anti-radiation missiles from the Brazilian company Mectron, a deal signed in April but only now revealed. Few details are known about the MAR-1, and for many years its existence was denied. With confirmation of the deal, Pakistan appears to be the first export customer for the missile, which is also in service with the Brazilian air force.
