UK will get a 'slap' from us, threatens Iran

Britain has been given a warning by Iran's foreign minister that it will "get slapped in the mouth" if it does not "stop the nonsense".

Iran summoned the British ambassador in Tehran on Tuesday, with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki threatening Britain with a "slap in the mouth" if it did not stop interfering in Iranian affairs.

Britain's Foreign Office said the ambassador would respond "robustly" to any criticism of a British government statement calling on Tehran to respect the human rights of Iranian citizens.

Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards earlier said Iran's opposition was linked to the country's foreign enemies.

Mottaki told a news conference that the ambassador had been summoned over Britain's interference in Iran's domestic affairs. "If Britain does not stop talking nonsense it will get a slap in the mouth," he said.

On Monday British Foreign Secretary David Miliband criticised the Tehran regime after at least eight people were killed in anti-government protests.

Miliband said the deaths were "yet another reminder of how the Iranian regime deals with protest" and praised the courage of protesters.

At least 20 opposition figures have been arrested since Sunday as hardline rulers intensify a crackdown on Iran's reform movement.

Exactly then these countires cry when they loose there soilders in war or in attacks US & UK and others in that circle need to stop being international police men & let people handle there own prob's and issues & live in peace.

The problem especially with UK is that it is still living in fantasies of good old days when they used to be the king of the world.They just cant accept the fact that there time as a world power was over 6 decades ago and there are many nations far more powerful than them.

I think Iran is festered over up rising of bloody students demonstrations and think UK is supporting them. So its a threat rather then a diplomatic statement.

I don't know what has deluded the UK into thinking that it has any real clout left, but the Iranians desperately need a PR manager. They've made practically every mistake in the book, launching missiles, issuing threatening statements, brutally cracking down on dissidents. They're making it easier for their detractors to portray them as crazy, dangerous mullahs.

while US-Iranian ties have been non-existant since 1979 --it is eye-opening to see how relations between UK and Iran are deteriorating very fast; especially after naval sailors incident on Hormuz straights, in 2007

the Iranian regime seems to opt for isolationist approach. But I appreciate how independent their foreign policy is!

On seperate note, i am sorry to see political unrest there; 15 people were killed during encounters with Basij during anti-government protests - during Ashura procession.

actually, i think Iran's foreign policy has been very calculated and genius....but of course at the same time, the blow-back effects like sanctions/embargo and not-so-favourable media coverage have given Iran VERY bad PR and not the most favourable economic performance (they import refined)

Iran's domestic policies -- not so smart or thought out. It seems younger generations have little love for the way mullahs are running Iran. But, very few of them are having a problem with the foreign policy.

You should see what some of the Mullahs and hard line Government officials say in the mosques and Government meetings. Then you to will see how crazy they are. Do some youtube searches. There are plenty of clips on there.

Iran is taking advantage of the fact that the world cannot use force against it (physically) now.

In other words: Talking smack.
US is just waiting for the right moment to slap Iran.

That statement made by an Iranian minister is again... talking big. Pointless. In no way can Iran match Britain's foot.

it wont just be Iran.....it'll be every country from Egypt, to Yemen, Somalia to Lebanon to Bahrain and even Pakistan....all these countries will be affected.

Iran's first move would be to mine the holy hell out of the Hormuz straights. Oil would sell at $350/barrel. The whole region would erupt in fighting...

and theres no guarantee israel would be safe from Iranian missiles....


Mr. Hugo Chavez would probably stir up some Latin American nationalism and try to find ways to confront U.S.

there is some talk of allowing pre-enriched uranium to enter Iran via Republic of Turkey. Not sure if it materialized. I'm not the biggest fan of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary government, but in the end only diplomacy and compromise can work in order to diffuse this situation.

Then wouldn't it make even more sense to play it cool and appeal to the general public in the west? IMO Iran's best bet is to try and turn public sentiment in their favor (they've failed miserably so far) and tie America's hands. The US is already engaged in two wars and while I don't doubt their capacity to decimate the Iranian military I doubt the general public has the stomach for it.
