Any country which has English as a major language will, which is practically the entire commonwealth.

If I do Masters in Mechanical Engg. From UK and get the job in my field then would I be given citizenship?

You first have to attain leave to remain so have to be in the country for 5 years continuously, then you will have to sit the citizenship test which is difficult.

If that was the case then they would already be here . They had the absolute freedom to before. What we got was the unskilled masses from Poland hungary and all the other "new" members of the EU.
Any attempt to gerrymander the point system to favour EU migration would fall foul of tons of UK legislation including the race relations act.

In the NHS, teaching profession, leading scientific and technological companies, there are lots of EU professionals now working there. They are also way more educated, intelligent and highly skilled than those immigrants from outside the EU. That is a fact.

"Foreigner" + 70 Points ---> "Foreign Worker" + Visa
"Foreign Worker" + Visa + 5 years (or 3 years if you had Tier 1) ----> Foreigner + Indefinite Leave
Foreigner + Indefinite Leave + 5 years + some general knowledge about UK + Citizenship Exam -----> UK Citizen

So if you start now, you will be a citizen in 8 to 10 years, minimum.

this applies to EU citizens now.. it used to be the criteria for Tier-1 and /or HSMP visa too.

Its more of a numbers game. Any country has a certain ratio of "way more educated, intelligent and highly skilled" folks. Even if outside EU are 1/10 likely to be of that kind, their sheer numbers make up more than for this lacuna. That and readiness to accept much lesser pay.
