The Yemeni soldiers the UAE is training appear to be armed with 5.56 mm AK-101 rifles. The use of a NATO calibre will make them more reliant on ammunition supplies from coalition countries than if they had been issued standard 7.62x39 mm AK-type weapons. Source: WAM

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is training soldiers for a new Yemeni army at Al-Anad Air Base in southern Yemen.

The UAE's official WAM news agency reported on 23 November that a batch of Yemeni soldiers had graduated from a training course run by the UAE's military.

While WAM did not say how many soldiers were trained, it released a photograph showing four platoons in formation on a parade ground and said the soldiers would either be sent to the frontlines to fight opposition forces or be used to maintain security in government-controlled areas.

WAM said the course is part of an "integrated programme to rehabilitate and train different security and military sectors in Yemen" launched by the Arab coalition fighting to reinstall Yemen's ousted President Abd-Rabuh Mansour Hadi.

Hadi's return to Aden was announced on 17 November. Photographs were posted on his Facebook page on 24 November showing him inspecting the newly trained soldiers at Al-Anad Air Base, which is 50 km north of Aden. Soldiers from the two battalions Sudan has deployed to southern Yemen were also seen at the base.

The UAE has previously announced it is training Yemeni pilots to fly its AT-802 light attack aircraft at Al-Anad Air Base.

These are mercenaries from different part of Africa and ME used by the emirati and the sauds for canon fodder. Most of the time they end up the target of the coalition aviation when they refuse to fight, or abandonned to die on the battle field when wounded...
