In India there is a lot of difference some very smart people and some very dumb. The education system is not great, it forces people to mug up to clear the exams. There are way to many subject and some not needed forcing student to resort to somehow pass the exam. I have met countless people in India who are graduate but when they talk they sound under-confident, school failed.

I know some Indians will not like it, but it is true. I would rather get real and fix the problem that be to defensive.

india and china need as much as 500 top unis for phds to be as productive and creative as americans. the difference in quality of education is simply unbelievable. they r just too ahead to compete. 300 mill ppl are basicaly the most innovative in the world, just imagine if 3 billion in asia could be the same. the world would progress extremely quickly.

that's just not going to happen for the reasons I've said before.

500 top universities, do you know the meaning of "top 500"... that's the top of all universities in the world. you are saying that unless China or India has all of the top universities in the world, they are behind? That's ludicrous.

I also know for a fact that US ratings get pumped up by biochemistry, psychology and other things that aren't physical sciences or engineering.

And? first space flight took place in 1961 and Russian did it with technology that was available back then, in 1961 it was indeed the greatest achievement, China sent man in 2003, now? now many countries capable to engineer launcher and space capsule, the question is why? it is expensive and bear little of fruit, not feasible.
