I did not know about this whole Burgher thing...I guess in a way they are similar to India's "anglo-Indians" who are a mixed bag when it comes to patriotism etc. I am sure there are Burghers in Sri Lanka who do not look down on their local blood and view it with pride.

As for Sri Lanka being "third world/developing country"....it is fast moving away from the typical developing country. Career diplomats like Tamara Kunanayakam et al somehow managed to differ the UNHRC for two years till the Tin pot dictator saw otherwise and with the advice of his batty boy Sajin Vaas unceremoniously dumped both Mrs.Kunanayakam and Dayan Jayathilleke.. Ending in massive disaster with the UNHRC adopting an international investigation

You need to go back to 2010 and look at the way the govt handled this issue one by one, Then you will realize the damage done by who and how

1. Chest beat about nationalism and let the UNHRC adopt a international investigation which the GOSL will have no say, And with mostly comprise of HR activists from the likes of AI, HRW and other INGO whom we know is highly negative about the country

2. Somehow get the nod for a domestic mechanism which looks more likely with the US on board and that means the EU, Japan and Korea will too, Which the GOSL will have ahuge say and more importantly time

The country is in deep shit anyways as regards to UNHRC resolution which imo is mainly due to the damage caused by MR regime unnecessarily

SL needs to do whatever possible to minimize that damage if not going to have major consequences.. All these "analysts" dont talk about that.. SL is a tiny country and cannot play global power politics in the name of nationalism, It needs to do whats best for it at that particular time
